They did another great job with the presentation and discussion tonight. My firts impressions....Josh Dodge is going to be a beast. may be our next great center. His family were wearing BG gear and the house was decked out in orange when Brandon made his in home visit. I loved hearing that. Willie Geter is going to be a lot of fun to watch. Hodges and Hutson have some potential at WR, they're both long and Hodges may not have the burner's flat line speed, but he finds that next gear quickly.
Nate Brown is the real deal. They had some game footage of him. He's very rangy...he has a HECK of an arm. He gets the ball out of there and there isn't the loft on the deep ball that you see with some HS QB's that have his running ability.
So far as coah Brandon's comments...Mike Ward is the new DC, we're getting new turf and he will be making three more hires. I think the Lovett thing was a suprise. I'm not suprised by the Ward promotion, I guess the need for some stability at the top played more of a part than I thought it would.
I'm impressed by the athleticism of the guys we've signed. We are MUCH quicker at LB now. Stanley has great feet and he looks like he knows how to wrap a guy up. Coach Brandon wanted Garrett Wolfe and he thinks we have that type of back in Geter...Ransom and Wooldrige have the same kind of qualities. Ransom gives us another recieving threat out of the backfield.
they hope to redshirt most of these guys
The punt formation seems to be staying...the long snapper needs to get it back there faster and more accuratley the punter needs to be a two step punter. He TT USF coach Leavitt's abut the formation, Leavitt uses it and says if the ls gets it back ther in ..8 seconds and the punter takes two steps to kick it, you could rush 32 guys and it wouldn't matter. It only seemed like they rushed 32 last year
They hope to use Winovich a bit more next year. I TT him briefly
after the Q & A...Mahone and Brown will stay at safety allong with Sanderson.
IMHO, The last two classes have added a lot of speed to the mix. We have more athletic LB's than I can recall. We have more interior size on the DL and we have running backs who can break the ball outside and GO. Brown is going to be a factor at QB sooner rather than later. Say what you will, but Brandon has definitley upgraded the athleticism in the program.
Oh yeah...the FIRST thing he adressed was the fact that we do recruit Ohio...hard. Every coach onthe staff has Ohio responsibilities. They now have the capability to go outside Ohio if more talented players are there.

I second that Zom! Excellent recap, Flip! I am encouraged by what I read. I love the sound of Nate Brown. I love to hear about the speed we have added again. Interesting news on the punt formation. And I hope they use Winny more. Hell, he's gonna be a SR already!~Zom wrote:Thanks for posting the "fly on the wall" report, Flipper - it made me feel like I was there.
I'm optimistic about the future....I know, I know. When aren't you Freak? Sorry, just my nature to think positive.
I LOVE SIGNING DAY...and seeing OSU with the 19th best class in the nation was kinda cool.
As far as who has the best class in the MAC? Who really knows? I just wanna welcome every one of the 20 young men that chose Bowling Green State University to further their education and wear the Orange and Brown!

Thanks guys...re the turf...it looks like it will be the fake stuff.. They're also redoing and expanding the locker rooms including a lounge for the players similar to what the hockey team has.
Oh yeah...per the head coach himself "youth will no longer be an excuse". He also said he''s not throwing AT under the bus...whicjh I think is a good thing because AT has the skills.
One of these days I'm taking a pad to take notes because trying to remember all this after the fact is a bitch

I ran into Brandon at the women's game and talked to him for a few minutes. He seemed pretty happy with how recruiting went, said a few got away, but that always happens to every school. He said the schedule this year is going to pose quite a challenge, but he's excited about Boise coming here and is hoping for some nice program exposure out of that. As far as the coaches, he said he didn't feel the coaches left with any hard feelings, that the turnover is to expected at a mid-major program since they groom coaches for a bigger stage. He also said that he doesn't want to rush in filling in any open spots, but he wants to have them in here for the spring game so the guys can get used to them. He also knows that there is going extra pressure on him to perform this coming season, and as stated earlier, the excuses will stop and he will take responsibility for what happens on the field. Either someone told him this year is make or break, or he's full of it. Remains to be seen.

Very encouraging stuff to hear. I am extremely happy about us getting Nate Brown. I am also extremely happy that we are getting field turf. It will make the appearance of the doyt to look so much better with the sebo IMO. I cant wait until this season gets started. Does anyone know whether the field turf will be ready for the spring game in april?

FEAR THE BIRD!

Given the weather here in the Spring, I would bet that the FieldTurf will not be in before the Spring game. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even start on it until May or June.svillefalcon wrote:Does anyone know whether the field turf will be ready for the spring game in april?

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Spring Game played at the practice fields, or even possibly in the Field House if the weather doesn't cooperate.

I wouldn't put the over/under very high on AT starting at QB this year, thats just my take.JoeFalcon wrote:The second page of this thread contains the best news I've heard about the program in months.
This team can win the MAC if AT just comes close to a Josh Harris/Omar Jacobs type season.

So.. now that we've got AT at QB, what about the rest of the offense...?falconboy wrote: I wouldn't put the over/under very high on AT starting at QB this year, thats just my take.
