Lefeld Named Academic All-District for Seond Straight Year

Senior center boasts 3.97 grade point average

Feb. 8, 2007

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University senior center Matt Lefeld (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV team for the second time in as many years. He is now eligible to become an Academic All-American.

He holds a 3.97 grade point average in Supply Chain Management and has started 51 career games for the Falcons. He is averaging 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in 14 minutes per game. For the last two seasons, he has battled severe foot pain which has limited his availability in practice and in games.

District IV represents Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama. To be considered, a student athlete must be a starter or important reserve and carry a 3.2 GPA.

Justin Hare, Belmont, 3.85, Exercise Science
Joe Reitz, Western Michigan, 3.72, Finance

Kids like Matt Lefeld are one of the things that's right in college athletics.
Congratulations Matt...supply chain management sounds a little esoteric for a major...almost like majoring in left handed Elizabethian poetry.

Heh? Supply Chain Management? Man that sounds mind numbing. I'd bet he plays basketball on those bad feet just for the escape.

That is very, very impressive. I wonder what his plans are for after graduation.

That's right. Make fun of left handed Elizebethian poetry majors. Take the cheap shot! Granted, I'm not able to find a job in the field right now but it'll happen...

Old school version of "Supply Chain Management" is Purchasing. You'd think the accountants would come up with a fancy name too so they wouldn't just be considered bean counters.

BTW, I have an accounting degree so it is politically acceptable for me to make jokes like that.

Say what you will about SCM, but Matt and Ali will each be making more than all of us combined three weeks before they graduate. BGSU has an excellent SCM program and our grads are highly coveted nationally. For these two athletes to earn national recognition for their excellence in this already nationally recognized program speaks VOLUMES about them!

Congrats to the BOTH! :D

This just proves the old adage -- you don't need feet to succeed in purchasing.

Way to go, Matt.

Speak for yourself...I bank some MAD dollars at McDonald's...that fry basket is like a part of my arm.

Seriously...it melted right onto my arm in 1988...they still won't pay for the surgery, so Im kind of stuck with it.

I was a (gulp) Radio-TV-Film major, so I certainly can take no shots at anyone else's field of study.

I will, however, say congratulations to Mr. Lefeld and good luck.
