A women's basketball arena?

Its almost fair to say that the women's team deserves a new facility before the men just because of the recent success they've had.

I've been meaning to toss this out there for a few days. So, breaking away from the Hackenberg thread...

If a new, larger arena is built, I wonder: Should the women continue to play at Anderson?

Ohio State's women play many of their games at St. John's Arena from what I understand, and it works for them. It's smaller, easier to fill, easier to make noisy. Anderson has all of those things going for it -- it looked and sounded great on TV last Sunday.

It would be very easy for this to be a nonstarter if people were to lock on the idea that Anderson is some kind of hand-me-down.

On the other hand, if some improvements could be made to make this a true home for our wonderful women's program -- a designer arena for women's ball...

I think Anderson would be a great long term home for the women. It is a great, intimiate building. Some say it's flawed. I say it has character.

I think it isn't a bad idea. If you made some improvements to it, it could work very well. UK also has two Arena's. The men play at Rupp, The women play at Memorial Collieseum, which is being renovated, and now has a very nice video board. It is also home for the volleyball and gymnastic teams. For a couple of games the women do play in Rupp, (UL, Tennessee) games in which they will attract more than the 8,000 Memorial holds now.

Making it for the women would also allow them to practice there more and really make it there own. It also keeps a building around that has great tradition and history

I like it. Of course, by the time this is an issue, the ladies will probably all be dunking using their standard-issue rocket shoes. Parking also will no longer be an issue because of the flying cars.

I love AA, and a lot of other fans do to. It would be great, in the event of some magical movement on the new arena front, if fans still had an opportunity to watch BG basketball in that building.

I love this idea. Update the bleachers in the student section and put in more seatbacks. Include a restaurant bar above where the band plays.

Thinking through the potential could be a fun practice.

There's definitely precedent for a move like this in womens college basketball.

I know Syracuse also plays a good chunk of their home schedule at Manley Field House (an ironic name) in lieu of the Carrier Dome.

The University of North Carolina plays many of their home games in a smaller, on campus area that is shared with Volleyball and Gymnastics. I would not be opposed to this as long as adequate renovations were done, some more parking was found, and the facility was turned into a venue and training center for Volleyball, Gymnastics, and Women's Basketball. What would anyone think of turning the court 90 degrees and changing the seating pattern? The court will fit running East/West if those bleachers were removed. New bleachers for a student section could be put up for a student section on the South side. The upper level could be enclosed into a working press area complete with TV/video capabilities, and the North side would have the benches and a majority of the seating. Since it is opposite the TV the focus would be to get more people sitting on that side.

Not anymore. Syracuse women play almost exclusively at the Carrier Dome now. Not the greatest decision IMO because the small attendence gets swallowed up, where it wouldn't in Manley. But since their program is struggling, maybe playing at the Carrier Dome will be a way to entice recruits.

This is an amazing idea which I had not pondered. I guess I never thought that the court would fit in that configuration. My initial reaction is that I really like this idea.

I don't know if it really needs to be "luxury boxes" as much as an area like the Falcon Club tent at football games. Put some concessions or a buffet area along the back wall that go with the admission and make it a Falcon Club or group sales area. Have some seats and tables along the front and you're set.

I also like the idea, back during volleyball season I thought if we did get a new arena that volleyball should stay at Anderson, and now after reading this I like the idea of both volleyball and basketball staying at Anderson

The women should play in a fixed up AA. The men should play at Eppler
