Walden's biggest mistake (or should I say Borders) was getting rid of the "Preferred Reader" program that gave you 10% off anything and then sent you certificates for money off (usually $5) future purchases. When they dumped that program, I just didn't go there as often. Books a Million has the 10% card and I go to Levis every two weeks (gotta keep the nails looking good, you know!jacojdm wrote:Walden Books is part of the Borders Group.Rightupinthere wrote:I think Walden Books is going away as a business. "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I think the bigger issue is that, in many cases (as RUIT said), traditional shopping malls are on their death bed.Falcon Fanatic wrote:Walden's biggest mistake (or should I say Borders) was getting rid of the "Preferred Reader" program that gave you 10% off anything and then sent you certificates for money off (usually $5) future purchases. It really made me sad when Walden changed the program and now look what happened.

In that case, the question may be, could or would BG support a Levis Commons/Easton type mall? Maybe not completely to the same scale as Levis, but something that would attract the "non-Toledo" part of Wood and surrounding counties? Levis is only 15 minutes up the road, but if you're coming from Findlay or Fremont or Tiffin, etc., thats a half hour off your roundtrip.jacojdm wrote:I think the bigger issue is that, in many cases (as RUIT said), traditional shopping malls are on their death bed.
Probably would never happen, I'd guess, but it's a thought if Woodland Mall finally goes.

Just what BG needs, another pizza place.Warthog wrote:Ebony's BBQ is now gone. That place is now Nite Flite Pizza.
Anybody remember T.O.'s Campus Corner? It was in the brick building that FalCuts is attached to on Wooster. I met the lady who's husband used to own it (Garnett Ohns). She scaled it back to one of those side buildings after her husband died (who went by T.O. but I don't know what the T stood for) and called it T.O.'s Too or something like that. She was a sweetheart of a lady.

90s
Here's what i can remember from the mid-90s. I haven't seen any on-campus memories on here, but Amani Down Under (in the basement of the Commons cafeteria) had the best peanut butter milkshakes. Buying beer with your meal card at the Union's bowling lanes was always fun. Off campus, I remember Club 21 (next to where the current Sterling station is). They had some good bands there. The Shed and a Shed-type store in the old Huntington bank building on Wooser that they have recently added a second floor onto and made, I believe, a realty office. A couple video stores -- one near Cosmos that had delivery and the other a couple streets south that had nearly every movie ever made. I also recall the short-lived Rhythm & Brews coffee house on S. Main. Sorry I don't have all the details, but some of my memories are a little foggy.

The new bar is called 1 4 9 or something like that. It's owned by the same guy as Whiskey Dick's. Apparently every Tuesday(?) is VIP night and drinks are only a dollar.FMBfan07 wrote:there is some other bar in there now. not whiskey dick's. can't remember the name. maybe owned by the same person?SaxyIrishTenor wrote:Yes! I thought it was around 2000-2001 that they lost there charter. Perhaps I am thinking of someone else. It looks like they got their charter back last year.MajorFalcon wrote:Thanx for the SN update. Wasn't aware they lost their charter during the '90's. They had a good organization during the 80's.

Forgot to note in my initial thread... the plane crash I referred to actually occurred while the Beta 500 was going on. Thank goodness no person/s were home when the plane slammed into the apartment building. Good chance the students who lived there were attending the Beta races that same day.
Did anything "replace" the 500?
