It's official, you and I have some major issues that go beyond this message board. We're hardly even talking right now. We haven't done anything in over a week. Maybe its just that we've been busy and classes are kicking our butts or something like that, but I can't help but wonder if this message board back-and-forth banter is somewhat responsible.svillefalcon wrote:I'm sorry 24, but if we didnt have a mens basketball program i know that it wouldnt effect you. To say that you are a fan of all falcon sports is ludacris. Whenever i talk with you and I bring up mens bball or hockey, you never want to talk about it, or never have anything good to say. I dont like where the hockey program and basketball program are but, i make every game that i can and cheer my head off for them to win. This is something i can say with assurance that you do not. I would like for you to say anything bad about the hockey team after an effort this past night. The team has played a LOT better the past few weeks and it really is promising to see this team get a win against an NHL stocked scUM team. The hockey team will be vastly improved next year with paluch as coach or not. Just look at Notre Dame a few years ago. They were in the same situation as we were and now look at them, #1 in the country. What the hockey team needs are large crowds like tonight, not people like you who are "boycotting" the program next year. Thats terrible, how can you call yourself a fan? Im sorry that just really irritates me.bgsufalcon24 wrote:McConvey wrote:Why in God's name would I? TG, when a team is 5-24-2 and is only winning 17% of its games, I think its perfectly legal to bash the heck out of them, regardless of who it is. You may not like that, I know you aren't the only one on here who hates it, but I'm simply calling things the way I see them.
I'm just going to leave it at that because I'm not interested in hijacking this thread. Hopefully we'll see another good game tonight and we won't get our brains beaten in.
Now see, you're getting me into this. The difference then, between you and me, is that you are not a fan of certain sports. I am a fan of all falcon athletic teams, have been ever since I came to BGSU. I don't discriminate between any teams, they all get my tuition money and my support. I go to football, basketball, hockey games, even got out to some volleyball matches and saw the cross country team a few times this season. However, if one team goes really bad, which the hockey team clearly is this year, you seem to think that it isn't right for me to point out this as such, as if I'm infringing on what everybody else thinks. I don't see this as such.
Why don't you care about Football or Women's Basketball? You're missing out on the greatest sport in America, falcon style, and the best team that BG has to offer.
Anyway, I'm not going to speculate on that any further. I will say that I'm shocked that hockey won tonight, that was a big win. But when it comes to men's basketball and hockey right now, I just find it impossible to get my hopes up. Because if I do, I'm just going to be disappointed in the end.
Now you're probably wondering, 24, how on earth could you come to such a lame and depressing realization? The answer lies in what happened on the football field this fall. On October 14th, we had just pulled out a 24-21 thriller against Eastern Michigan, and were standing 3-1 in MAC play with Akron and Miami behind us. All we needed was Kent to lose a few and we were there. I got my hopes up that we might be looking at a division championship and a MAC Championship Game. But then came a loss at Central Michigan. Then came the annual screwjob against Akron, which absolutely sent me into a tizzy. Then came the Big Bird Biff against Miami. In the end, we end of 4-8, and I, with bloodshot eyes, was left to wonder what the hell happened. It was almost as if I had relived the Browns 36-33 go from ahead loss to the Steelers in the 2002 playoffs, or the Indians blow the bottom of the 9th inning against the Marlins in the 1997 World Series. Maybe I've come to the realization that its not worth it to get so high on my favorite athletic teams. (The Cavaliers, because of my unique family situation, do not apply here, although sometimes I wish they would)
I see two struggling teams of ours this winter. But this time I'm not making the same mistake by rooting with blind hope like I did this past fall. The reality is that more than likely, the men's B-ball team is going down in the first round of the MAC tourney and probably only has 1 or 2 more wins in them this year. Hockey, I can't believe I'm going to say this, might be better suited to advancing in the postseason because of the recent play of goaltender Jimmy Spratt, but would I bet on them advancing? Hell no, they are 6-24-2! The odds of them winning 2 out of 3 in a pressure situation on the road are very bad.
I guess the bottom line is, the less you hope for it, the less you are disappointed in the end when the teams don't get there.
