Gophers and BG to play in 2007, 2008

I know it was thrown around on the boards that this was a possibility but I just saw this on AP.

Gophers to play Bowling Green in 2007, 2008

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- New Minnesota coach Tim Brewster has his coaching staff and first recruiting class in place. Now he knows who the Gophers will play in his first game.

The Gophers reached agreement with Bowling Green for a home-and-away series, beginning with the Falcons coming to the Metrodome on Sept. 1, 2007.

Minnesota will travel to Bowling Green, Ohio, for a game against the Falcons on Sept. 6, 2008.

The two schools have only met once before, when the Gophers beat Bowling Green 31-7 at the Metrodome in 1986.

Although the Falcons have been one of the stronger programs in the Mid-American Conference in recent seasons, Bowling Green was just 4-8 last season and lost the final five games of the season.

The Twin Cities will be a nice road trip for fans. The Tribe plays the Twins Tuesday through Thursday of that week.

Yeah...it will be a nice trip...Because there's no way we'll see them honor the other half of the contract...Why even make a contract? No one sticks to them...

The game in Bowling Green had been -- "announced" may be to strong a word, how about "mentioned" -- before.

I believe it. And I'm excited.

Yes. However (and here's something you guys might not like hearing); a lot of the reason Minnesota ended up playing against Ohio MAC teams was because Glen Mason wanted to get games in Ohio to get the team in front of recruits, as Glen targeted Ohio hard. However, with a new coach, it's a new era. I certainly hope the Gophers complete this contract, but I have no way of knowing if they will.

I'll put the Freak's entire yearly paycheck on the Golden Goph's coming to BG and honoring their contract. Greg C. had mentioned this before of how important it was/is to get a Big Ten(11) team to come to the Doyt. We are the last school to have a team from this conference to do so - and it is about time!

I'll believe it when I am at the game and I see Minn. take the field... Until then I hope that we are training hard and ready to open the season against them in the metrodome.
