Lewis gone!!!
Lewis gone!!!
This is very sad news.
Junior men's basketball player Ron Lewis has requested a release from his athletic scholarship at BGSU and will look to continue his education and playing career at another institution. The request will be honored pending an athletic department investigation that there has not been communication between another Division I program and Lewis and/or members of his family regarding a possible transfer. Such communication, without prior written approval by BGSU, would be a violation of NCAA rules.
"Ron has been a valuable member of our program and we are disappointed that he has chosen to leave," said BGSU Athletic Director Paul Krebs. "We are concerned, however, that he may have been contacted by other schools prior to asking for his release and we are asking the NCAA to look into this matter."
Lewis, a second-team All-MAC selection in 2004, led the team last year averaging 17 points and 33.8 minutes per game.

Is it too late to put the basketball team on sabataccal for a couple of years? This is awful news. It is one thing to have end of the bench guys leaving every year because they are not happy, but to lose an all-Mac player like this is astounding. Something must be seriuosly wrong here.

Re: Lewis gone!!!
What does this mean? Some other school approached Lewis about transfering and they talked him into it? What are the penalties for something like that? Would Lewis ultimately be the one who loses the most in that situation because he would likely not be allowed to play anywhere? Or is this just being sour grapes on our part because we are upset that the basketball team is losing another player? Why is there not a quote from Coach Dakich on the situation? With Lewis leaving, do you think Wright might change his mind and leave now to? Way too many questions with far too few answers.McMetz811 wrote:The request will be honored pending an athletic department investigation that there has not been communication between another Division I program and Lewis and/or members of his family regarding a possible transfer. I too received that press release, and although it's a real shot to the team, why am I not surprised?
The request is probably legit, and my guess is that BGSU A. D. is just taking the standard precautions to prevent seedy activity. He's gone.
If we're talking about former Falcon basketball players finding success elsewhere, look no further than Erik Crawford who went to the NCAA tournament with Northern Iowa. He went to the big dance and we didn't.
I'd say more but I'll probably write a column about it and it will surface somewhere.

Re: Lewis gone!!!
i'd suspect that this is just standard operating procedure. it's against ncaa rules for a coach, booster, etc. to try and lure a player to one school from another. if ron wants to stay DI, he'd lose a year, anyway. i also don't see that there's anything unusual about dakich not commenting in the official press release. it's more important than the "higher up" makes a comment rather than a coach, since student-athletes come to a school, not to a coach.Warthog wrote:What does this mean? Rumor has it that Rosefelt was run off to make room for the Jesus twins (who wound up at Miami anyway). In the aftermath of those events, Hobson and Lewis leave and Wright may have "left" briefly also.
Did DD blow this team apart trying to get the Jesus twins? Does DD have problems communicating with african american players? I hate to interject potentially divisive topics like race into the equation, but look at the racial make up of the kids who have left the program vs the kids who have stayed....

Grant....can you honestly tell me that no one else would look at the same set of circumstances and not raise the same question?
I know the issue is the 800 pound Gorilla that people like to pretend isn't in the room, but somebody's eating all the bananas.....
I recognize that this is your house. If you prefer to delete the post in question, I won't have a problem with it.
