BG Wins! If they come out of the locker room????
It is my understanding that one official told DD and the team that the game was over and went off the floor with them. This was verified by DD, Matt Miller, Matt Lrfeld and Daryl Clements. They went to the locker room and some of the players were even in the shower when the officials came back to tell them that they put time back on the clock, and they needed to come back out.
I don't know about some of you, but if I'm wet and in the shower, it might take a few minutes to get dry and put my uniform back on. They also mentioned that Lefeld even came back on the floor without even putting his socks back on! I can certainly understand why you wouldn't come out until the ENTIRE team was dressed and ready to come back to the court.
Truthfully, I thought Buffalo's coach should have had a technical for buzzing the "buzzer" multiple times on his own and acting like a 10 year old. The worst outcome, was that they should have waited for the team to come out, knowing the situation, had them inbound the balll, and the game was over!
Most of us that have been around awhile, KNOW that MAC officials are TERRIBLE, and many are on some sort of ego/power trip and love nothing more than trying to decide the game on their own. Men"s basketball is bad, women's basketball is HORRFIBLE, and most of the other sports are not very good either, but the league officials do absolutly nothing to improve the situation. We even get homored by our own officials when we play Big Ten schools, because that is where most of them want to officiate, so any close call goes their way. I have seen it MANY,MANY times in multiple sports.

How do you know this? Were you at tonight's game? Did you see the officials? Did you speak with them and ask what other games they are calling this week? Month? My bet is that three guys in Buffalo probably don't do a ton of MAC games. More likely Big East, Horizon, maybe CAA, Northeast....CrazyFan wrote:But, for the most part, INCLUDING TONIGHT (prove me wrong because I havent cross referenced the names), we have MAC referees (or referees who do the majority of their games in the MAC).

Silly??? Yes it is only a game. DD career hangs in the balance and kids played their hearts out only to have it taken away. Let's cool it. Calm down. We don't want to delete any post but we will.Flipper wrote:This is getting really silly....CrazyFan wrote:Why should we show respect for the ones that are trying to defend this call?? Give me a break! Does anyone have any passion for anything anymore?

I'll be at the next home game, feel free to come discuss it with me. Looking at your reactions here I'm not sure you're capable of discussing it rationally, but after some time to cool off I'll give you the opportunity. I'll be seated in the student section...first row of steps north of center court, about 3-4 rows from the top.CrazyFan wrote:Why should we show respect for the ones that are trying to defend this call?? My take on this is quite simple.
The officials screwed up by saying the game was over knowing that it could not possibly be over.
Dan screwed up by not knowing the game could not possibly be over; he gets some leeway given the official told him it was over, but knowing the rules it could not possibly be over.
Why run to the lockerroom immediately and jump in the shower when there is still a question? Todd said an assistant went back to the lockerroom to fetch the team. Could this assistant not have gone back earlier and told them to not jump in the shower they were reviewing the call? It did not take long for them to decide to review the call.
Yes, Dan was given some misinformation, but he ran to the lockerroom for a reason. The way the call on the radio sounded we went out of our way to get out of there ASAP, not necessarily following standard post game practice.
I think both the refs & the coaching staff screwed up here. No big deal, it happens.
Then comes the call. I think this call is a 50/50 shot, maybe even less than that. If you're following the book to the letter, it's probably the right call, but it's not in the spirit of the rules. The players should decide the game.
I don't think the blame belongs on any one person or group of people in particular. The officials clearly screwed up. I also believe our coaching staff screwed up by allowing the players to leave so quickly; it didn't take the officials long before they started reviewing to see if they were going to put time back on the clock...our assistants that were still on the court should've told the HC/Team that it was possible time would be added. I also think that if the tables were reversed everyone of us would be calling for a delay of game technical.
I think this is likely a case of an official wanting to assert himself for some reason. I wouldn't make the call if I were an official, but I do think that if you follow the rules to the letter it was likely the right call. I'm still surprised they made the call though...maybe they'll get themselves on sportscenter?
As has been said MANY times your right to free speach gives you the opportunity to start your own website and say/write whatever you want.OSUFALCON wrote:

When you're on this site you are in Grant's home and he has the right to throw you out/censor whatever he wants...the idea is you play by the rules of the locale you're in. Free speech does not apply.

Thanks factman....this sounds oddlly similar to the US/USSR gold medal game in the 1972 Olympics. I have to think that the T call was at the discretion of the officials...I can't imagine that there's a set time a team has to be back on the floor to replay the final half second getting put back on the clock.
Under the circumstances they should have been given enough time to come back on the floor

The refs should have gotten together and said this..."We have to let BG have the time to get back on the court because one of us told them the game was over. Let's give them time to get out of the showers, dress, and get back out here and finish the game. It was our fault we told them the game was over." That's how it should have been handled...period.
Dakich said something in his postgame about Witherspoon leaving the floor as well. Apparently, he's not as quick to get in the shower as our guys..hammb wrote:From the sound of things at least their coach stayed on the floor, so he could sound the buzzer a number of times at the scorers table.h2oville rocket wrote:Did Buffalo stay on the floor or head for the lockers?

good post! The web cast from UB clearly showed the horn had went off with the ball in BG possession.hammb wrote:I'll be at the next home game, feel free to come discuss it with me. Please save me 10-15 minutes a day and ban me! What I don't like is how some comments are lefted untouched and others are picked at. MAC/FANS/REFS continue to show why they are second class. Where's the passion? It's not just on this site but most other MAC schools forums are the same way. Cry Cry Cry. Can't walk across the street in traffic to support there team most days. Just bit%h because no one gives them respect. The MAC gets what it deserves, second class Refs and in many cases second class bandwagon fans.
