BG used a white "LT" logo on an orange helmet for the 1970 season. It disappeared from the helmet until 1981 when BG instituted the brown "LT" with the white center. That lasted through the 2003 season. The modified brown "LT" has been in place since the opening of the 2004 campaign.
So that logo has been in place - in one form or another - for some 25 years. To see that tossed aside saddens me.
I recall Bo Schembechler talking about his first press conference after being hired as the Michigan coach. After a few pleasantries, he'd thought he'd crack a joke. He said something along the lines of "the first thing we have to do is get rid of those hideous helmets." The room became immediately silent.
A few random history notes ...

Iowa's helmets have been the same since 1979

Aside from having #s, Michigans helmets have been unchanged since 1959

Minnesota has changed the color of its helmets four times since 1968 and altered its design eight times during that same period, but the "M" has always remained.

Ohio State hasn't changed their helmets since 1968
I dunno ... I guess I'm just an old fart.
