BSU/BGSU info from the Idaho Statesman

IMHO, It's not looking really good right now but it sounds like the powers that be are still trying to make this happen if possible. Hope it does.

BSU football schedule in a state of flux
By Chadd Cripe - Idaho Statesman
Edition Date: 02/14/07

The Boise State football team's schedule could be changed for the second straight year because of scheduling problems in the Mid-American Conference.
Idaho also has run into a problem with the MAC.

Bowling Green has indicated that it would prefer not to play the Broncos this season as scheduled, Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier said. It's also possible that the Broncos' unannounced fifth non-conference opponent — which is supposed to be a MAC team — will come from somewhere else.

The question marks have prevented the WAC from finishing its schedule.

"The Mid-American Conference is working on some different variations related to Boise," Bowling Green athletic director Greg Christopher said.

Bowling Green dropped last year's game with Boise State at the MAC's request because of another scheduling conflict. That led to Boise State playing at Utah.

Bowling Green played at Boise State in 2005 and is scheduled to return here in 2008. Christopher said he isn't sure if the 2008 game will be played, either.

He said he'd be disappointed to miss a chance to bring the Fiesta Bowl-champion Broncos to Ohio, but he can't afford to be picky. The MAC adds Temple this year, which creates a seven-team division and a six-team division. That unbalance has created scheduling headaches.

The MAC office, Christopher said, is "heavily involved" in the Falcons' scheduling.

"Right now we're trying to find a schedule that fits," Christopher said. "Who it ends up being is second almost to something that fits with the broader schedule we're trying to put together."

Bleymaier hopes to finalize the Broncos' schedule by the end of the month. The uncertainty has held up the WAC's ESPN schedule, which must be completed so the conference schedule can be assembled.

BSU has games scheduled against Weber State (home, Sept. 1), Washington (away, Sept. 8), Wyoming (home, Sept. 15) and Bowling Green (away, Sept. 29). The Weber State, Washington and Wyoming games are solid, Bleymaier said.

If the Broncos lose both MAC opponents, they could find two replacements or stop at 12 games. The Broncos are scheduled to play 13 games because of an NCAA rule that allows teams that play at Hawaii to play an extra game. However, the Broncos are not required to play the 13th game.

Bleymaier said "it's too early to say" if the Broncos would be able to replace both MAC teams.

Meanwhile, Eastern Michigan officials have indicated that they want to pull out of this year's game at Idaho, Vandals athletic director Rob Spear said. The buyout is $250,000, Spear said.

Idaho has non-conference games scheduled against USC, Cal Poly, Washington State and Eastern Michigan.

So....for the second straight season we piss away a chance to play a quality, nationally prominent program like Boise State because......? Why are we doing this? Because Temple and some other schools screwed up thier schedules?

It looks like we won't be playing Navy either and rumor has it that we're only going to play five at home anyhow. If we wind up with a 1AA opponent or some other garbage team for our single OOC home game, I might very well not purchase season tickets again this year and will again let the AD know that the lousy home schedule is the motivating factor.

You want to improve attendance? Then schedule some decent games and get the damn schedule out ahead of time. Right now, you're just irritating fans like me and doing nothing spark interest in the largely apathetic football fans in northern and central Ohio.

Why in the hell is the Mid American Conference "heavily inolved" in our OOC scheduling. All they have done is completely screw up schedules and make BG look like the scapegoat after doing them favors. Get the conference schedule out on time and let each school do its job. The conference office has screwed up enough things for the member schools, like adding Temple, having uneven divisions, playing an ODD number of games etc, etc, etc. I am really sick and tired of all of this BS.
It is either time to look for a new "commish" or a new conference!

This is BS right here. Grow a pair, Mr. Christopher, and tell the MAC office, which has screwed us time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time again, to go hmmm themselves.

I just made this point in the CMU/OU thread. If we had any balls, we would release our OOC schedule with the Boise game intact and tell the MAC to figure out the conference schedule without making us bend over again this year.

This scheduling deal shouldn't be this hard. The MAC office, in my opinion, is mostly at fault. They knew from the day they admitted Temple that there would be issues with creating a conference schedule with 13 league members. They should have laid out to all the member schools over a year ago what the plan was for scheduling football games. Instead, we sit here less than six months before the season starts and it looks like they have no clue how to make it work.

As I said in the hoops forum, if Rick Chryst is running our athletic department, what are we paying Greg Christopher to do? Heck, I'll come in and call Rick for instructions and show up at a few games for half of what we're paying Greg. That would be a pretty sweet gig...

As I mentioned before, Chryst is the AD's ticket to a bigger and better postion down the road. I can tell you that he calls Chryst for every little thing and things that don't even concern the conference and only BG. The whole situation is getting stupid. If I were a coach, I sure as hell wouldn't want to work for him, because you get no backing (ie the recent Buffalo situation)

Is the sucking up really that bad? I would hope that future employers respect a person who exercises independent judgement and leadership. Who wants a go-along guy?

Last time I checked, Rick Chryst's title was Commisioner, not Commisar.

Our athletic director needs to look out for the best interests of our athletic department.

F TEMPLE... we wouldnt have these problems.

F those other programs who can't figure out not to schedule 5 OOC matchups.

BG is getting hosed when it comes to bringing a top 25 program... if your AD doesn't make this happen... it will be one of the greatest failures in Falcon Football history.

Boise State would have the Doyt PACKED... I for one would come home to BG to go and watch that game.

Well...if we give up home games with Bosie State and Navy (per this link Navy was a signed deal http://tinyurl.com/2cmfto) at the behest of the conference office, I certainly don't want to see the AD bitching about attendance and looking for handouts on the last week of the season to paper the house. Navy and Boise are a couple of 25k crowds.

Nothing says "big league" like a program launching an all out effort at the end of the year to pad attendance.

Does anyone know what the best way to contact the conference might be? I guess I'm looking for a specific (read: NOT [email protected] or something similar) E-mail address. I've reached my breaking point with all of this BS, and I want Chryst to know it.

I would suggest that everyone let him know how they feel. Repeatedly.

I find it interesting that they don't list a email address for Chryst!
