The article I wanted to read

(THIS IS WHAT JOEFALCON WANTED TO READ... THE LETTER IS NOT REAL -- GRANT)

MAC Apologizes For Poor Officiating

Cleveland, Ohio- The Mid-American Conference has issued a formal apology to Bowling Green State University for the actions of its officials surrounding the conclusion of the men’s basketball game between Bowling Green and the University at Buffalo played on February 13.

“The game officials made a grievous error in miscommunication regarding the game’s conclusion and compounded that with an unwarranted technical foul. Incidents like this are embarrassing and reflect poorly on the professionalism and sportsmanship of the Mid-American Conference. Dan Dakich and his players deserve better than this and we sincerely apologize,” Commissioner Rick Chryst said in a prepared statement.

The conference promised a further review of the incident and possible disciplinary actions against the game officials. At issue was a technical foul assessed to Bowling Green due to their supposedly slow return to the court after game officials determined that .6 seconds remained in the game.

A game official had told Dakich and Bowling Green forward Nate Miller that the game had ended, and the players were showering the locker room when abruptly summoned.

“We appreciate the conference acknowledging their mistake, but that doesn’t excuse what they took away from our kids that night. I reacted emotionally and I apologize for that, but it was based on one of the most irresponsible displays of officiating I have ever witnessed in 30 years of basketball,” stated Dakich.

Both Dakich and Bowling Green athletic director Greg Christopher said the department didn’t plan to pursue a formal revocation of the game outcome.

The conference also publicly reprimanded Buffalo head coach Reggie Witherspoon for unauthorized contact with arena sound equipment immediately following the end of regulation time.

Finally. Now I think the MAC needs to make Witherspoon give an apology for his immature behavior.

Dakich's response was spot on.

Well, A perfect world this ain't

Conflicting MAC "reprimands"?

Post by Class of 61 »

OK, first BG, more specifically, DD, gets "reprimanded" by the league office AND Christopher for being unprofessional etc. etc.

Now the league comes out and APOLOGIZES to BG and DD for the way the refs mishandled the situation, INCLUDING the issuance of the Tech.

This was AFTER the league said the refs proceeded properly....Holy smoke! What a screwed up mess the MAC is this year! In prior years I've thought that Chryst had run the MAC well, but he and the conference better start looking in the mirror, the way things are going this year. And the FB scheduling fiasco is still in front of us!!!
