With the language used, he is lucky he didn't get suspended for a game. There are ways of expressing dissapointment without being obvious, Dan just doesn't ever seem to do that. When he made those comments he made his bed. Now he is lying in it. What I do have a problem with is the AD not making a public statement of support for the players and of dissapointment of the situation. It is possible to support the team and admonish the coach, and it is more than appropriate in this situation. As far as the MAC is concerned, both the office/commisioner and officials can screw off. I would love to see our entire home crowd "boo" the officials each and every time they make a call regaurdless of which team the call is against as a protest. I believe Dan is on his way out, but I hope he is able to leave with the high level of class he came in with.
You're not actually disagreeing with anybody. DD broke the rules, and rules should be enforced.

The issues in this thread are (a) Christopher's obsequious, thimbledicked, unsupported response, (b) Chryst's one-sided response and questionable interpretation of events, and (c) the overall state of MAC officiating.

Not to throw a wet-blanket on anyone's fiery hate-fest.... but...

How many of us were there or have even SEEN what happened? I find it amazing all the conclusions that have been drawn by a bunch of people who only have a few very vague and limited media reports to go by.

It's a game we should have won. For whatever reason, we lost. Time to move on.

You know, in the grand scheme of things, one more win and one less loss isn't going to matter in this season. I was in the stands after a game when Coach Weinert went off on the supervisor of officials over a horribly called game. He later came to me an apologized for his display and I told him he was correct in his assesment of the officiating.

For our chief fundraiser to support the MAC and not DD is par for the course. He could have said something like "We disagree with DD's use of language and public criticism of the officiating, but we support him 100% (until we fire his ass).

And Dakich, should not have apologized. Geeze what are they gonna do, give him a bad recommendation for his next job? Suspend him until he does. Maybe he should write on the blackboard 100 times "I will not criticize officials agan this season" or something like that. Indeed, he had a chance to say nothing and didn't take it. BUT, I would not have been nearly as kind as he was after this season :-)

Hoops fan, that was funny! I must say that the MAC disappoints me over and over. I am sick and tired of Chryst screwing BG at every turn. I say we join TU and perhaps MU and leave this pathetic league. The MAC deserves to languish with Buffalo, EMU and Temple.

Just where do you suppose we go? I don't think other conferences are knocking on our doors. And a three team conference sounds like the punchline to a very bad joke. We need to work with the other schools and find a solution. If that means (hopefully) a change in leadership in Cleveland than fine.

I'm just not with you on this. I DO think that the response was one sided and the interpretation was questionable, and I think that we know enough to say so. I stand by what I wrote.

Furthermore, this isn't something to sweep under the rug and forget about. It matters and it sets precedent. The incident was absolute bullshit taken to a new level. "Moving on" isn't appropriate. I'm not done with this, but I am done with Chryst and Chrystopher.

Ya know. I'm as pissed as anyone on this board about what happened, but a person I work with raised a very good point today. The point he raised is that none of us know what happened in the locker room. It's a possibility (and we all know Dakich is very capable of this) that when the refs went to BG's locker room and told Dakich what was going on and that they had to go back out to the court that he maybe blew up on them and went into one of his swearing tangents and said a few choice phrases that the refs might had taken personal, so they called the T because DD pissed them off. Maybe this was included in the referees written reports to the MAC office and the reason that Chryst and Christopher responded the way they did. I don't know. We'll never know. Just a possibility that might help make some sense of this whole mess. But it's over (until it happens again!! :D ).

A terrible loss. I am so disappointed for our players in particular. On the surface, it ould appear we were denied a win in a game we won. But unless a poster is privy to everything that was gathered about the ending of this game, I have no idea how you can absolutley "be done" with Greg Christopher. We have no idea what all those written reports and eye witness accounts actually said. Perhaps our response from Coach and our AD was based on the body of that information. Perhaps the AD has also said other supportive things privately to Coach and the team, but due to the nature of the postgame press conference etc., he had to make the formal statement.

We just don't know.

I sure haven't quit on Coach or our AD based on that event. Coach is our Coach till he's not and I support our AD and our school.

I do agree that several matters with the MAC office (most particularly football scheduling) haven't gone "our way" recently. But I also know Rick Chryst is a very hard worker who wants the best for the league. So I would say- let's get the scheduling set and get ready for football, Mr Commish!

And beat Morehead State first.

Go Falcons!

I can tell you that I have had first and second hand accounts from two different people that were there and they basically backed up DD's account. Actually one of them was more upset about it than DD. Did anyone even come in the lockerroom, or did they just yell down the hall to tell them to come out? It really gets more bizzare. I have also dealt with our AD on another issue and understand how he "investigates". I prefer the "Buffalo Bob and Howdy Doody" comparison! Can Clarabell be far behind?
Perhap the investigation was "one sided" to make his point!
I also understand where your "bread is buttered" so understand your response, because I know how you feel about MAC officials!

This doesn't hold water. For one thing, it's pure speculation (although believable). Furthermore, the technical was called for delay of game, not for yelling and cussing at the refs in the locker room. Calling a T for delay of game because the refs were pissed about being yelled at is weak (although more believable yet). If what you described actually happened, it leaves me every bit as dissatisfied as I am now.

This incident isn't that complicated. What hidden details would are there that justify these clown refs? Did our team appear to stall when coming out of the locker room? What did DD say in protest, if anything, when told that there's still 0:00.6? If the answers to these types of questions are unfavorable for our team an coach, why wasn't the team/coach chastised for THOSE actions? Why just the reprimand for bad words in the post game?

I'm not interested in what Chrystopher says privately to Dakich, and again it's only speculation. Greggy should have the balls to support his coach and players in the public forum. Private words behind the scenes are cheap and easy.

It seems like everyone in an official position is taking the path of least resistance on this. The MACs response, and the ref's handling of the situation, are half-assed at best from where I sit.

It's great the Chryst is a hard worker. Who isn't? What matters is that the conference's competitiveness and stature on the national stage has plummeted over the past few years on his watch. He may be effective at reprimanding coaches and supporting garbage officiating, but TV time has been running dry. Based on his results, he sucks.

You forgot about the brilliant moves of adding week night football games and adding Temple to the conference. :)

I believe Temple was a good addition. I also believe the exposure we are getting on ESPN is incredibly valuable.

Unlike some of us, I remember the days when the only time any MAC football game got on national television was the California Bowl and our conference basketball tournament was played before a few thousand people in a Toledo convention center.

The league has come miles and miles since those sad days.

I don't understand all the sniping at Chryst, and I think we have a long way to go before any of us can properly judge the work Christopher is doing.

Let me challenge was has been an assumed fact. I absolutely understand the dark days of which you speak. OTOH, those were days before there was the volume of coverage out there that there is today, before anyone even thought of weeknight games, etc. Before ESPN was the defacto sponsor of all the bowl game, etc. A rising tide lifts all ships.

What, specifically, has being on ESPN done for MAC football. I ask this as a serious question. Has it helped us financially--not according to surveys of coaches salaries. Has it helped us recruit better players? Not based on the product on the field since Marshall left.

The second and third bowl games are huge. No debate there.

Meanwhile, we have lost ground to the Missouri Valley Conference in basketball, etc.

My opinion is that based on more recent data, the conference has lost ground in the past couple years.
