Ladies Pound Buffalo 85-44...

Post by Falconboy »

Megan Thorburn had 22 pts to lead all. Horne had 15, Acther with 14. The freshman got some good time as well. We've now clinched the East Div. Next game on the road is with Kent St Tues.

Glad to see Megan finding her stroke again. 22 from her is awesome. If she can keep it up and add another consistent double-digit threat, we're going to be even scarier in the tournament.

I love this team!

Between this game and the Akron game -- I think, at this point, the women may deserve a nudge up the rankings. The Falcons are just embarassing the opposition.

We'll see the polls soon enough, I guess.

Another interesting question is this: What is the longest conference winning streak in NCAA history?

It's a tough question. The NCAA probably doesn't track that. Maybe one needs the Elias Sports Bureau or something to get at it.

Doesn't look like they have it anywhere:

Women's record book

Though the records for overall win streak and home winning streak are just silly.

It may be Louisiana Tech. I haven't checked on Old Dominion, but Louisiana Tech lost to Western Kentucky in 1998 -- and never lost another Sun Belt game.

I count 63 straight wins by Louisiana Tech against Sun Belt teams. The only thing that broke the string was Tech's decision to join the WAC. The last win against the Belt while in the Belt was the 2001 tournament final against Denver.

Also, it looks like Duke had a 51-game streak against ACC teams -- from Feb. 22, 2001 (win against Virgina) to Feb. 4, 2004 (loss against Florida State).

Actually, it may be Old Dominion.

Old Dominion lost to James Madison on Feb. 19, 1995.

The Monarchs then defeated Colonial opponents 113 straight times -- by my count -- until James Madison finally defeated them on Feb. 18, 2001.

Damn.

That's impressive. I know they've won something like 15 straight conference tourneys. It's impressive that Delaware, JMU, and Hofstra are all trying to overthrow them this year. That's a conference tourney I would love to watch start to finish.
