Read this if you're sure Miller will leave us at some point

Post by Jacobs4Heisman »

Read up on Wendy Larry, the coach at Old Dominion. She's been there since 1987, and has led ODU to a championship game, and elite eight, and many sweet 16s. She's won an insane amount of games there, and their conference dominance is unprecedented, and may never be repeated.

True, she's an alum and was a player there as well, but I dont' see any reason why Miller can't stay here just as long if he so chooses. WCB is a very different world from the "revenue" sports at the D1 level. The money disparity is not as great, and neither is the pressure.

I'm not saying Miller will be here forever. I don't know if that's what he wants or not, even though it wouldn't surprise me one bit. I'm saying that some people I've talked to think it's a foregone conclusion that he's gone at some point to a bigger program. I don't think that's true given the nature of WCB.

I personally think Miller stays unless he gets one of his "dream" jobs in DI...I don't think he 'Urban Meyers' us and heads to Utah
Inventor of the Clusterf**k and Shoot offense.

I agree with you J4H (now, if only we could agree in the football forum LOL!)

I really think Miller likes BGSU and what he's helping to build. There are actually people out there that don't run their lives by the all mighty dollar.

I believe Miller will leave at some point. But until I read or hear he's accepted another coaching job, I will enjoy watching his teams thrash the crap outta people. :-D

Freak, I couldn't agree more in that Miller isn't worried about the dollar.

But what I do think is that once he's taking BG as high as he, us, or others may think it can go, he'll look for a new challenge.

The next, bigger challenge is what all coaches look for, and while I think Urban (you were alluding to him, no? :) ) was interested in his ego and more money, he also wanted the next big challenge.

That's what I think Miller will (eventually) look for, not the extra 20K or whatever it might be.

But I'm perfectly happy to enjoy the proverbial ride as long as he's here!

Jham,

I see what you're saying. I didn't make the reference to Urban Meyer, though.

I think Miller will eventually leave BGSU. He's only 39 (I think) and still a pretty young coach. I know cuz I turn 39 next Monday.

He will look for another challenge some day. He is too competitive not to.

I see what people are saying with this one, but I guess I'm just of the opinion (hopeful as it may be) that Curt will consider being the upstart mid-major making a deep charge into the NCAA Tourney enough of a challenge for a good, long while.

What I hope is that when the time comes (because it can't realistically go on forever,) one of Curt's assistants will decide to continue the legacy and stick with the program. Based on the way he seems to impact the players, I can't imagine his assistants aren't picking up a little bit of the magic by sheer proximity.

No matter the case, though, he's here now and I'm LOVING it. :D

I'm more worried about losing one of our assistants than I am about Curt leaving. I know that someday his dream job will come but I think he will be around for awhile.
