Old Time Hockey

Post by BGDrew »

Anyone catch the Sens/Sabres game tonight? (I'm thinking NY-BG-Fan did). It felt great to watch some old time hockey because that's what fans want to see. Scoring is great, but it was great to see two teams that just didn't like each other get into it and finished it off in a shoot-out.

Even the coaches almost got into it, which is always refreshing to see guys with that much passion at that level.

You can catch the story here: http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.as ... 064781.htm

I'm hoping some video pops up soon.

ESPN.com has video on their front page, complete with Barry Melrose commentary. :D

I was hoping Lindy Ruff would try to take on Ray Emery and eat his steaks through a straw until Christmas.

Another great win! :smt041

I caught the game live on satellite. It's always entertaining when the goaltenders get into it, though "Biron got his lunch fed to him" as Melrose put it. Hopefully this will be some good run for Andrew Peters, who is one of the toughest guys in the NHL no one has ever heard of. And he does it without being a thug, he's just an enforcer. Emery wasn't so tough when those two got together. I just hope Drury is ok, blood was pouring out of his forhead from the hit that started the whole thing and he did not return. With Afinagenov and Spacek already out among others, losing Drury is not an option.

Wow. Couldn't hear a whole lot, but those were some wild words between the coaches, too.
That was nuts.

It was great to see that last night, and even better to see Stafford stick up for Drury. Accountablility is something that's missing in pro sports these days, hockey is probably the only sport left where guys who do something cheap to another player have their own thing coming. I remember being shocked when no one from Dallas defended their player after getting stomped on by that Titans player, dispicable. Now that the playoff races are heating up, this will only be the beginning of the passionate play. Even the Oilers/Jackets game last night was chippy, it's great to see.

FYI...The Sabres and Sens play again in Ottawa on Saturday night. That should be fun.

You've got to love this guy.

I think every team in the league should make a point of having a forward run the guy at least twice a game. Dude actually has done a good job keeping that temper in check aside from the slash on LaPierre that resulted in the suspension. Still worth a shot.

That made Slapshot just downright silly.

In terms of the rules, it wasn't cheap. However, Drury was pretty much blind sided even with his head up.
