Who needs tiny urls? (You do!! :-) - G)

I still say when our arena is packed, it's the loudest place anywhere. That low tin ceiling really bounces the decibels.

I think Pooch is right when he says that the arena is fine as long as we make some few adjustments.

No argument here. I was glad to see the crowd that showed up Friday, even if it meant parking at the Fieldhouse as a late arrival.

Not saying we need a $35M arena ala Miami(OH), but I figure anything we build/renovate will likely approach that (or at least $20M plus). Seeing the moderate struggle it took to get a fraction of that for the Sebo Center, how would an effort for a new/renovated rink go? Or would people be more likely to donate to something they can more tangibly use, instead of just look at and ooh and aah?

Is that supposed to be a straight news piece or an opinion piece?

There is also this article about the feasibility study. Long article, little information...never a good combination.

Its not Ribeao, it isactually the fact that they are in last place. I wouldn't put up money for a team that never won either.
I am actually suprised that Paulch said what is said, I thought he would have taken that oppurtunity to blame that for his losing record, I mean he has used everyother excuse.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, our arena is still one of the bst paces t play and enjoy a game. It's quaint, cozy and loud. If improvemets/renovations are made it will remain a great place to call home. There is no nedd for a new arena.
Yeah right girl!

One of the BGNews articles says that hockey in a convocation center with 8-10000 seats would be too big for hockey.

Why would an 8-10000 seat arena be "too big" for the hockey team when they outdraw the basketball teams? (and have for years)

I don't get it.

Right now, the hockey team averages half capacity. Playing hockey, especially college hockey, in a building that is only 1/4 capacity is not fun for anyone...just ask OSU. Last time I went to a game at the Schott there was 6,000 in attendance. I sat next to my dad four rows off the ice and had a normal conversation the entire game. Most nights at the Ice Arena my dad and I end up almost shouting back and forth, and this is standing right at the glass.

In all actuallity, the only things that need replaced at the Ice Arena is the roof, the compressor system, and the PA system.

Big time. My dad and I moved down from up by the scoreboard to down by the zamboni doors Friday so we could hear the 50/50 numbers (I'll be damned if I miss out on my chance at that monster $220 jackpot!!! :-D)

Might have been best for us, we had been sitting right where that puck flew up high midway through the third.

You don't build a church for Easter and Christmas.

We don't need to waste money on a great sound system unless we are going to get a totally new ceiling. That tin roof that helps the place get so loud with only 2000 people in there is what kills the acoustics. And from what I understand that is not possible because the roof cannot be removed and replaced without compromising the structural integrity of the walls. With that knowledge I would advocate for a new building to serve as the main arena. The current Ice Arena can remain as is for a second sheet of ice and for times when 2 events need to happen at the same time. Perhaps the locker room part of the building can be demolished and rebuilt, and still keep the new addition intact. That gives us an updated facility with the bells and whistles desired, a second sheet of ice, and more flexibility. I would like to see a new arena with about 4500 seats on the main level and 500 in club and luxury seats. That will allow the team to be playing during construction. One of the things we need to take into consideration is how long a renovation project would take and how it would affect practice and the season its self. A new facility eliminates that worry. The fund raising can be packaged so a new facility can be built and necessary upgrades like the cooling system can be replaced in the current Ice Arena.
