I like the benches with backs idea... I had also thought that if they go with chairback seating in the same arena, they should keep the main student sections as benches.

I just hope that by the time next season comes around, there is a study in place to determine the feasibility of doing a study to see if a study for a new arena is feasible.

that is good stuff...but instead of sandblasting the building...just frinking put a new skin on it...they reskinned my wifes office building which is larger than the Ice house in a couple of months an dthey used the new stucco and brick up high, and while they are doing it they could add some sky lights when they repitch the roof, i also like the idea of the new ice being overtop the tennis courts and adding some basball lockerrooms, the building could well be made as a dumbell with centrall lobby between the ice sheets, that is open bringht and has lots of windows, a food court concession area and heck you could even add valet parking for all falcon club and stadium club memebers, thus moving those vehicles down by the football stadium and further helping parking.Puckhead wrote:_________________BGFan wrote:I hate to disagree with on on this but we do. There are reasons that some of the youth hockey teams are going to Findlay and Fremont for ice times and it's not just money. 6:00 am ice times aren't easy to live with (I've been there, believe me) but sometimes that's the only times that are available.
The other thing that a second sheet allows is the ability to host weekend tournaments ala Tamo. You can't do that easily with one sheet due to the number of teams that make up a good tourney. Two sheets, on the other hand, allow for two games to go on at the same time. It's also a fact that an ice facility with multiple sheets can and will make money....a single sheet will not.
Spring hockey only happens around here every other year due to the figure skating program that goes on during the opposite years. Two sheets would allow for both to happen every year. We have the need for more ice, trust me.
BGFan is 100 % correct.
A regulation sized rink located to the east, where the tennis courts are now;
seating for about 800 would be fine.
We will be getting all new compressors and piping for the main arena; building a second sheet is much less costly that an new building.
Sand blast the inside and outside of the building. More locker rooms.
My plan would be some boxes at the top of the arena. Put a walkway behind the boxes. Extend these boxes and walkway to the west over the dirt area and over the sidewalk; to the north over the side walk, to the east over the locker rooms. Put cocession areas up there similar to MSU. Under these extensions there would be room for the baseball team to have there own locker rooms and facilities.
Yes this idea might eliminate a row or 2 of seats. (BTW Ty Masters did a research paper on the feasibility of boxes years ago) My plan would also call for the patch ice area to become locker rooms for youth hockey and figure skating, the skate shop might be located between the 2 ice sheets.
I do not think that we need chair seating, but benches with back rests would be good. I f they do go to chair seating do not do like UNO has done, a 6 ft 210 lb person should be able to sit confortably.
I'm not sure if my plan is fea$$ible, but it would tell the world that BG is commited to hockey. Come on Dr. Ribeau drop the puck and get r done;
the recruiting class of 2009 is watching. I'll donate time and money to make this work.
