Can someone explain why UNO continually thinks that we're a rival to them? I know about the stories of us roughing them up awhile ago and them calling us Tootsie Rolls, but honestly. They're not even on our radar of teams that the players consider to be rivals.

It is a rivalry on a certain assistant coach's radar :-)

The whole thing goes back to the first time we had to play out there during the playoffs. I believe it was the first CCHA "Play-in" game. Basically, we ended up getting a major screw job, the ref was fired afterwards,...yada, yada, yada. They got to go to the Joe for the first time, we got to go home and think about it for a year. There was potential for it to turn into a pretty decent rivalry for the fans, but UNO came to BG so few times that nobody knew who they were.

I don't know about all of the rivalry stuff, but I am glad we are driving to UNO instead of flying. Traveling helps a group come together, and this team needs all of the bonding it can get. I would love to think they will enjoy the drive over as well as each others company and come out of the gate swinging. Time will tell.

Actually it goes back a bit further than that. In the days of Scott Hewson, before UNO was a member of the CCHA, we played them. There was a bit of a scrum, if I recall correctly, towards the end of one of the periods resulting in their fans booing us as we were exiting the ice. Scott, being Scott, raised the roof on his way out causing even more of a furor from the fans. From that point on they considered us their biggest rivals. It has cooled in recent times, but still heats up to a point when we play them....especially in the playoffs.

Hewson kind of gave a mav a little cross check to the back after a mav goal...offense was taken, mostly by the 8,000+ home fans

It was good old Dougie Schueller who raised the roof

Re: Scott Hewson
Scott was wondering why some Mav player was so out to get him.
I think it was Hogaboom or something like that.
Scott's Mom says, "don't you remember you cleaned that guy's clock up at Penticton last year".
The Mav fans always thought that Scott was such a goon;
physty yes - goon no.
BTW Scott and Danielle are recent parents of a baby boy

Rivals

Post by jimmyomaha »

I don't consider BG a rival. Most of our rivals reside in the WCHA, we play all other sports against NoDak, Mankato, and St. Cloud. There are rumors floating around Omaha about Wayne State joining the CCHA, and Bemidji joining the WCHA. The rumor is that if BSU joins the WCHA that they want UNO to make a 12 team league. I don't know how I feel about that. There was a little bit about it on inch.com. Anyway, back to the point. We love to hate BGSU but it is no rivalry. Good luck this weekend. Besides, UNO is 15-8-1 all-time vs. BG....just a joke.

I agree witg you were no rivals...and as far the record goes...its for us to shift in to second gear...and continue getting back to BG Hockey.

Ialso think your a better fit in wcha, and wayne st is better fit here...now if UAF could be better placed. i think there is alot to about the regionality for conferences.

MACMAN,

Please read here , The CCHA will try to hold on to UAF for as long as possible because of the Alaska/Hawaii exemption used for scheduling purposes.

I know the reality of it, but there is a lot to be said for regions and how m¨ch better it is when the teams are closer. wont happen and your right unless UAF fights for a change and i dont think they will any time soon...

man some of these are the definition of old time hockey...heck as memory serves that game against Minnesota was real chippy as were some of the others...and i thought in that in pummleing of lake superior they were going to hold a raffle to see which lucky fans got to play...
We are going back to those days...with out the fights of course in the pc world...but the quality of the team...were going back there, we are on the path.

'78 record

Post by ShaneFalco »

I believe that 1978 record comes out to being something like 37-6-2. Close to being the exact opposite of this year's record.

Natural conclusion: we are definitely on the path back to those days.

It is good to be optimistic, but let's be serious.

Actually the team is stuck in Eastern Iowa thanks to the snow storm that blew through. I just talked to the video guy tonight. Blizzard went through the area and they're stuck.
