Game postponed?

Post by Rightupinthere »

Team is stuck in Des Moines and, from my reading, the major routes west will be closed the rest of the day today.

There is the potential for the Friday night game to be postponed.

Updates always welcome.

Wow. Screw the game, just keep everyone safe.

My best friend, his dad and their 180 lb. dog are stuck in the middle of nowhere about 30 miles outside of Omaha in this storm. He is reporting back to Cheyenne after his leave; I don't think he'll make it back in time.

Just an update: the team is stuck in Des Moines. They are still going to try and play tonight, but I-80 is their only way into Omaha. I don't think we're going to be playing hockey tonight.

Reports from Omaha are that the team is on their way.

I REALLY hope they don't push it. This season has been enough of a disaster without anyone getting hurt.

Another Update: The UNO SID is saying that BG's on their way to Omaha. They found an alternate route and the game will go on tonight as scheduled.

So spending the day on a bus and arriving (at best) 4 hours before gametime? Sounds like the first period could be they key to this one.

Just out of curiosity, what's the normal schedule like when busing to games? It seems like this trip is a huge adventure, but I guess sleeping in Des Moines last night and having a medium bus trip into Omaha might not be much different than going from BG to WMU on the day of the game.

Des Moines to Omaha is a 3 hour drive under normal conditions. They'll be lucky to get there 3 hours before gametime.

It should be interesting. :?

An alternate route?

Having lived in Des Moines for 3 years and traveling to Omaha few times that is like saying they found an alternate route from BG to Dayton other than I-75.

Des Moines to Omaha 2-2.5 hours maybe 3 if you stop and or are on a charter bus, in normal conditions.

Take 75 North to the Turnpike and go East towards Cleveland. Look for I-71 South at about Exit 161. Follow I-71 South into Columbus and follow to the 70/71 split in downtown. Follow I-70 West all the way over to Dayton. Should take you no more than 5 hours or so.

Well, with that thought in mind, you could take I-35 from Des Moines south to I-435 west in the KC area, and then head north on I-29 to Omaha, although that IDOT site says that taking I-29 there in ill-advised. Good thing I'll be on I-29 tomorrow! :D

I just got into town, Had to take 35 south from Des Moines (I80 is still closed Des Moines to Omaha), then state route 92 west to Council Bluffs. A bus shouldn't have taken that route, but they probably did take a southern then western alternative.
Numerous whiteouts, but not very long duration each. Literally hundreds of cars and trucks littering the shoulders, ditches, and medians on I80 through Iowa.
Supposedly, tonight's game is still on.

Mavpuck is reporting that the team is at the Qwest. THANK GOD!

I'm glad to hear that you made it there safely Bill. Did Karen go with you? If not, she's probably been a LITTLE concerned!

I'm hoping to hear that the other BG fans thinking about making the trip are OK.

S.C. if you are reading this, did the family go? PM me and let me know if they are OK PLEASE!?! or e-mail me at [email protected]

Given all that has happened today, I am SO thankful that the team made it to Omaha safely!

GO FALCONS!
