I don't think there was the turmoil surrounding the program under Weinert that we've seen the last few years.

Also, there was about 15 years time between Nehlen and Weinert. They were not the same AD....

Weinert was under pressure for the team's performance, but no, less turmoil.

TG1996 wrote:Might be mistaken, but I thought I remember Nehlen saying he left for Michigan when Bo had an opening since "the administration at BG wasn't committed to winning". Maybe it's the different reasons for the same result, but I don't think he was technically "fired", he just wasn't quite given what he felt he needed to be (even more) successful.
We've discussed this before, and I remember concluding it wasn't a firing.

I think it was understood that he had to go -- his critics were pretty loud after the mix-up on downs involving Miami. Maybe his contract wasn't renewed. He did land on his feet at Michigan. But he wasn't actually fired. If Bowling Green has fired a football coach, it probably hasn't happened since before Doyt Perry was here.

Our coach's name is now being substituted for expletives in unrelated stories...

The pep band was quiet, the cheerleaders were seated and the student section stood idle trying to come up with another less-than-clever cheer. Hundreds of fans were close enough Thursday night at Alumni Arena to hear Buffalo coach Reggie Witherspoon holler at guard Andy Robinson.

“Andy,” Spoon urged. “Take the ball to the (Dan Dakich's favorite expletive) basket!”

That's funny.

The MAC soon won't be the same.

DD is a great person and has helped a number of individuals above and beyond. Yet that does not mean he should remain as coach of the Falcons. Record and trends means more for that position. A number of nice guys coaches are no longer employed in their field. Say hello to Steve Mariucci, John L. Smith, Alan Trammel, and a whole bunch of others.

Fred, this is a very fair point.

There are a lot of very great guys out there. Certainly the BG community has more than its share. If we need a great guy as our coach, we could hire one from the BG community for $65,000 and put the extra $$$ into AA's bleachers. How's that for vision?

If Dakich is not renewed, I will not celebrate. I still wonder if he can somehow get on the AD payroll another way. He's that type of individual in my eyes. How about the SID!

I hope for him and his family all the best. Regardless, he'll land on his feet. He's the type of man who will always come out on top.
