Record:
7-29-1 overall - only MERRIMACK had a worser [sic] record at 3-27-3.
5-22-1 CCHA - last place.
Final statement on the record: It was the worst record (both overall and conference) ever by a BG hockey team.
Analysis of key fundamental statistics.
Powerplay
23 PP goals for a .61 ave - worst in the CCHA*
PP% - .093 - worst in the CCHA*
Penalty Kill - .807 - worst in the CCHA
Short handed goals- 1 goal for a .03 APG - worst in the CCHA*
Defensive stats
Shut outs - ZERO - worst in the CCHA*
Saves - 27.6 Ave per game. Second best in the CCHA, however, I couldn't find shots allowed per game. I have a feeling we would also be last in the CCHA in that department.
Goals allowed per game: 3.87 - last in the CCHA*
Offensive Stats
Goals per game: 1.97 - last in the CCHA* - see PP information.
Assists per game: 3.29 - last in the CCHA*
*NCAA statistical information is not available under seasons end. I'm far too busy to look up every conference so I will await those postings to update how BG compares to the rest of the nation.
I didn't see improvement from this team until the last handful of games. I have NOT seen improvement from season to season. To be fair, I am using the radio announcing, stats, and reports from fellow fans to assist in my point of view.
I'm not sure "more time" should be offered to Scott Paluch. This program CAN be turned around and quickly. It has the history and the fan backing to make that a reality. The question is do we have the proper leadership and program culture to make that happen? I'm not so sure.
*********This is a page break so that people who back Paluch can stop reading. I apologize to them because I know their story and the VERY difficult situation they are in. I wish Scott all the best. ********************
I stated several weeks ago that a drastic change needs to happen for this program to make a come-back. I continue to stand by those words. When I mean drastic, I mean drastic. This even includes Mssr Powers moving to another position.
It means a new head coach. I wish Paluch well and much success, but - for whatver reason - that success won't be experienced at BGSU. This isn't personal for me. It's my objective detemination.
It means a university president making a commitment to hockey as a major source of AD revenue. This also means updating other athletic facilities because as athletics goes, so goes the applicant pool. That is becoming a more prevailing philosophy. My MBA school is updating their facilities and adding on a Div II football team. I spoke to the newly appointed president and my dean. Both stated that athletics is going to drive the college's growth.
It means an Athletic Director who will be able to stop the bleeding of the program and do what is neccessary. It also means finding a way to update the arena.
Time is short. More and more colleges are beginning to realize the potential in having a varsity level hockey team. This means the recruiting pool will begin a relative thinning.
The time to act is sooner rather than later. If the thought is "wait", we may as well scrap the program and just offer a club team. The obvious emphasis would football (which would not make me happy). Why dilute the resources?

I agree Pooch isn't getting the job done for whatever reason. He is the head coach and ultimately must answer for team performance or lack there of. But, do we have enough people who want to see him leave so badly that the money can be found to buy out two years remaining on his contract? I believe the answer to that question will determine if we have a new coach or not.

Everything you'll ever need.
Friggin basketball needs one like this because I'm sick of trying to cull stats off umpteen different sites.

Has it been absolutely, positively confirmed that Paul Krebs extended the contract for another 2 years? Paul would not have done that to BGSU before heading to the sun belt, would he??
Rather than buy Pooch out, how about we put him on medical leave for the next 2 years?? Let Danton and Doug run the program while Pooch is recovering from some illness. It is just a thought.

In a perfect world you could take a year or two to plan and execute complete renovations to the Ice Arena. You could then hire a new coach and go about the business of scrubbing the suck off of the program.
But it's not a perfect world so I suspect that where we ars is where we'll be for another two years.
But who am I to ttalk...I didn't even GO to a game this year

Site.
Ever.
And the guy that runs it is the bomb. I didn't realize just how divine he really is until I started working in basketball and started having to try to cobble together stats from a hundred different sites. IT SUCKS. Just another of the eight thousand reasons that hockey > basketball.
