Visit from Coach Dakich
Last night, Coach Dakich stopped by our fraternity house with loads of pizza, soda, t-shirts and posters. He came to of course talk about the team a bit, but really had no agenda. If anything, his goal was to simply thank the overwhelming support of the past years from our fraternity and the students who always attend games.
While you can say what you want about our team's performance in the recent years, this man is still a great coach and the perfect guy for our program. He answered questions for a while about everything from McLeod to inquiries about a new arena.
He's very excited for the season and so am I. I won't be here for the whole season, but i'll surely keep tabs on the boys while i'm in SC. I hope everyone else is ready for the season, because he says these guys are playing like the men when McLeod was here...having fun playing as a team.
Here's to Dan the Man!

Dan's always been a great ambassador of the program!! Glad you got to see that first-hand!!Mr. Frieda wrote:Last night, Coach Dakich stopped by our fraternity house with loads of pizza, soda, t-shirts and posters. I know this year they're doing something special with the Sideline Squad!! That's always been the kind of thing DD loves, rabid fans on the court! Who can blame him. Anderson Arena provides a home-court advantage unlike ANY other, PERIOD!!
You and your brothers get out to the games! Tell your friends, your rivals, your dates, their sororities, EVERYONE!!
I don't think this is going to be the "down year" everyone is expecting. Even if it turns out to be though, even in our DOWN years we're tough at home and you can't beat Anderson Arena in the wintertime!!

Also...
If any of you work with a student organization or any group around BG, contact the Coach if you'd want him to stop by and talk. He's great at getting out and promoting the program and just making himself accessible to everyone. It'll be a little tougher now that season will start, but i've known him for a couple of years and he's always willing and eager to stop by and meet with students.
Call the bball office and just let them know what you have in mind. I doubt you'll have any trouble getting him to come around.
Peace!

I still dig Coach Dakich and his style of coaching but he needs to turn this around now. He has always been a great spokesman for the hoops program and BGSU in general. I find myself always rooting for him...
I'm cautiously optimistic cuz I don't follow hoops as closely as some here. BG needs to get outta the gates quickly. AA is the best when it's packed!
GO BG!~

What did coach have to say about a new arena? I am curious to know his realistic take on it. Obviously, in a perfect world, it would happen with the snap of ones fingers. But we are nowhere close to perfect.

Feasability study has been done comparing new v. remodeling AA. He wants to keep AA, obviously, but so much needs done to update it and make it ADA accessible. He says we're still 2-3 years away from it being done, but they've done a great deal of studying and visiting other arenas. He insists on the students still being courtside, with no rail to separate us from the court. That's basically the jist of what he said. Finally in 04 wrote:What did coach have to say about a new arena? I am curious to know his realistic take on it. I'm still pessimistic about this hoops season, but I will ALWAYS support Dan. Dan is a great guy, and has been a great ambassador for the hoops team. He has said some things in the heat of the moment at times that have come off wrong, but a lot of coaches do that. When you get down to it he is just a great guy who loves Bowling Green, the town & university.
For those reasons I really want him to start to experience some on the court success again, because if he doesn't his seat will begin to warm I'm sure. I really like Dan, and I find it hard to believe that he forgot how to coach, but he's obviously not bringing the right guys into the program the last few years. Hopefully that trend has turned around and we'll start to see the improvements this season!
