Best of Luck to Dan and his family!! Thanks for everything you did for our community! And thanks for giving me lots of laughs at the many coach's shows that I attended. Your humor is one of a kind!!! You will be missed!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I was asleep at the wheel yesterday. I read about DD resigning in this morning's Dayton Daily News, then got my rump over here to read this thread.

BGSU has done well with Dan Dakich. We had some high moments and some low moments. I thought his letter was well-written and well-stated.

I, however, would have written my resignation on the mirror in the men's room in orange lipstick...... it would have said.......

"Since you don't have the sack to just can me, I quit!!!"

But I am not a cool as DD. He'll land on both feet and do great things elsewhere. Thanks for coming to BGSU, we'll miss you. Good Luck.

Was this in Maureen's stuff from yesterday/today? BG News has this quote:

http://media.www.bgnews.com/media/stora ... 4822.shtml

"Dan and I talked [yesterday] morning about the basketball program, and at the conclusion of the conversation Dan made the decision that he will not seek a contract renewal," Christopher said. "With that in mind, we're going to begin the search for a new head coach immediately."

This seems to paint a different picture, no?

No. I didn't think that Dakich wrote the letter before talking with Christopher about his decision. The letter has 3 purposes. 1:Its the formal "resignation", at this level it is best to have everything in writing, even if you say something 2: It lets the fans know whats going on. 3: While things may not have been great lately with the program, it is a reminder that Dan had done many good things at BG, which is a benefit to him in looking for a new job,

The truth is the situation was handled exactly how it should have been handled. They discussed it and came to a reasonable path forward where no one looks bad....... but it's much more fun my way.

<Note to self...... start using emoticons again to make sure the joke is understood>

Here's the Sentinel-Tribune article on Dakich's news... really nothing there that we haven't seen/heard already.

Completely agree, FF> Coach D's humor is great. His show on FSN was always entertaining and I remember when he and Coach Brandon made an appearance over in Canton one time. He had my dad rolling on the floor. I will miss him greatly. One of my fave memories of Coach D is at the 2002 MAC Title game vs Kent State. The first half ended and as the rest of the team made their way to the locker room, he grabbed Pardon, Matela, Klassen and McCleod and was encouraging them to hang strong and keep up the effort. Even though BG ran outta gas and lost, I loved what he did...grabbing the Seniors on the court and encouraging them.

God bless you, Coach.
