Steven Wright-led Northern Kentucky Upsets #3 Findlay

Post by Crew Love »

Northern Kentucky University, led by former Falcon Steven Wright, upset the #3-ranked University of Findlay tonight in a NCAA DII Regional Semi-Final, by a score of 60-56. Wright registered 19 points on the evening on 7-14 shooting (3-7 3PT) and was huge for the Norse down the stretch. After hitting a long three-pointer on the previous possession, Wright came up with a key steal and resulting breakaway dunk to put NKU up 57-56, a lead that they would not give up.

The loss for Findlay ended their NCAA record 59-game home winning streak and pushed their final season record to 29-2.

Wright and Northern Kentucky will be back in action on Tuesday night, taking the court against #7 Grand Valley State for the Regional Championship and a trip to the NCAA DII Elite Eight in Springfield, Massachusetts. Tip-off is at 7PM and tickets are available through the University of Findlay.

Since I'm on my Grand Valley kick, I have to mention Steven Wright's miserable performance against Grand Valley. Wright went 3-16 from the field for 9 points in GVSU's 66-42 dismantling of NKU.

The whole team shot 22%...can't say he was the only one who sucked! :D

That's fair enough, but then I guess it's only appropriate to point out NKU shot 56% against Findlay when Wright had his big night, so we can't say he was the only one who had a good night then.
