Boise had the ability to play a 13-game schedule since they play at Hawaii this year. Since their game with BGSU was cancelled, they are only playing 12. They are not replacing the BGSU game with another game, ESPN or no ESPN.Some of you may recall that over 5-6 WEEKS ago or so, I posted that I'd talk to someone in the Ath.Dept. (name not revealed then) and that the Boise game was OFF our schedule...reason given at that time was that ESPN had entered the picture and had offered Boise a sweeter deal for a TV game etc.
The (crappy) 2007 schedule is out!

But the press release made it sound like FIU bailing on us had jumbled the picture and forced all the changes. I'm not buying that theory either.
I think the bit about ESPN is a line of BS. Other than some media speculation regarding what Boise State should do, I haven't heard diddly about ESPN getting involved in this. If it was some sort of ESPN/Boise cabal, why are we going back there in 2008 before getting a return in (supposedly) 2011? I'm sorry...this just doesn't fly.
At any rate...there's not much we can do other than hope that this situation isn't repeated next year. Of couse....that was the hope last year also.[/i]

2008 OOC schedule as of now?
Minnesota (home)
Boise State (away)
Pittsburgh (away)?
I'm just curious how much it will resemble what it is supposed to be as of now with what will be announced one year from now. There's a small chance we'll play 5 OOC games in 2008 if the MAC is still a 13-team conference.

The last time that game was on the Friday after Thanksgiving (2001 if i recall), I came back to town, as did thousands of other students. The folks that want to go to the game will go whether they're on campus or not.BGDrew wrote:And there will be no students there as that's over Thanksgiving break. There's nothing I can do about this schedule, so I just accept it. But I'm with the majority when I say that I NEVER want to hear the AD complaining about attendance. I'd rather have the Toledo game not be televised on ESPNU if it means better attendance

If JD campbell actually uttered those words, then he is a fuckin moron that needs to be run out of town immediately! How can replacing Boise State with Western Kentucky "best fit what we're trying to get out of our schedule?" Idiot.PGY Tiercel wrote:'61, Not arguing with you that this is what G.Chris told you, but this is what is in an article in Boise today. It makes it seem like BG pulled out of this one. He also said we would only have a five game home schedule, partially again due to some MAC scheduling problems i.e. some schools "overscheduling" for '07.
So, #1- I wasn't surprised to see that Boise wasn't there.... disappointed, yes...but surprised? NO!
#2 - Like at least one other poster on this thread, I'm willing to give GC another year on the job before I go screaming into the night. Is this a good schedule? Not in the way that we would prefer i.e. "name opponents" etc..... Is there a remote possiblility that this could be a "trial period" for WKU to eventually enter the MAC, thus evening out the divisions?
Idahostatesman wrote:Bowling Green pulled out of a home game with Boise State for the second year in a row. Last year, the Falcons were helping the MAC fix a scheduling problem. This year, they preferred to start a multi-year agreement with Division I-A newcomer Western Kentucky, a regional foe from Bowling Green, Ky.
The Falcons, who call Bowling Green, Ohio, home, also have a loaded road schedule with games at Minnesota, Michigan State and Boston College.
"This move for us best fits what we're trying to get out of our schedule, not only for next year but for the future," said J.D. Campbell, the assistant athletic director for communication at Bowling Green.

Reading between the lines, replacing Navy and Boise at home with Michigan State on the road and WKU at home means getting more money out of our schedule today, without factoring in loss of revenue from attendance/donations in the future due to declining interest in the program. How can replacing Boise State with Western Kentucky "best fit what we're trying to get out of our schedule?"

Don't really give a s**t. With that ridiculous statement I know everything I need to know about where he stands on things. He's just the kind of person that supports and attempts to justify our MAC ass-kissing.orangeandbrown wrote:That's uncalled for. How ironic.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Don't really give a s**t.
Looking at where we thought we were a month ago and where we are now, I'm incredibly disappointed. However, some of the personal attacks and language toward those in charge of the program have me embarrassed. We shouldn't have to sit here and take it, but we shouldn't have to act like a$$holes, either.

Quite frankly, I've just come to expect that out of some members of this site. Disappointing, but it's the way things are, I guess.TG1996 wrote:We shouldn't have to sit here and take it, but we shouldn't have to act like a$$holes, either.
I'm frustrated. Anyone who listened to my show probably heard my meltdown over it. The thing is, though, I'll be at all the home games and (if I find a decent job) probably some of the away games. I'm all for sending a message, but the last thing I want is for the players on the team to feel like they're not supported.
Although, thinking further about it, I can't imagine they feel like they have a whole lot of support from the top (all the way up to the MAC office) with the way our schedule has gotten messed up the last two seasons.

San Diego: If there's one thing we should learn, it's not to speculate on the upcoming year's OOC schedule, because all the "contracts" are written on rolling papers that are in turn used by the folks who make up the final schedule.San Diego Falcon wrote:2008 OOC schedule as of now?

TONS of them. That was my final home game as a student and it was the craziest student section I've seen at the Doyt, outside of maybe the GameDay game. That UT game had a packed student section, and a group of guys that had smuggled 5 gallon buckets of Hairy Buff into the Doyt...we were passing cups around the student section and the place was rocking. That was also the game that we tore down the North Goalposts and tried to carry them down Wooster St.BGDrew wrote:And how many of those were students and not Townies sitting in the student section?jacojdm wrote:Date: Nov 23, 2001 Site: Bowling Green, Ohio Stadium: Doyt L. I assure you there were a LOT of students that came back for that game.
The difference was we had an electrifying coach and we were breaking out as a team. We had recently won a game against a Big 10 opponent, and the program was on the rise. That game completed the biggest turnaround in college football that year.
Considering that we'll likely be limping home for the UT game this year I don't see nearly as many students coming back for that one.
Every time I read this link I just get more pissed. I went to college in BG. I live in BG and now I am taking the kids fishing and hunting on saturdays instead of the Doyt. The reality is there are so many better things to do than watching WKU and the Owls. Replacing a BCS winner and top ten team who agrees to come to your place is just stupid- stupid- stupid. Especially when you are in the MAC. I suggest we all write the MAC, GC, and even Brandon. It is hard to imagine this program headed in a positive direction whith crap like this going on. I predict we average fewer than 10K this year. I have had it.
