Ron Lewis Graduates
Ron Lewis Graduates
I heard on the radio on the way to the games in C-bus that Ron Lewis graduated from OSU today. Congrats to him! Considering the high school he came from in Columbus, this is a huge accomplishment. Considering that he is a college basketball player (at any school), this is an even bigger accomplishment. With the BIG SHOT yesterday, walking across the stage in St. John Arena is icing on the cake to a great weekend.

Well, I guess *someone* had to be their one out of 10 that graduates... congrats to him.

Has Brookhaven changed that much? Granted, most graduates from Northland High School would say that Brookhaven and Beechcroft are reserved for the academically deficient, but it's not really that bad is it?cbjhack wrote:Considering the high school he came from in Columbus, this is a huge accomplishment.

graduation rates are a joke..anyone who transfers or leaves early, which OSU has had a lot of, counts against you. It doesnt count for you, however, when they transfer and graduate at that school...TG1996 wrote:Well, I guess *someone* had to be their one out of 10 that graduates... congrats to him.
IT is BS and not fair to anyone, no matter who it is, to take schollies away based of that rate.
it is the biggest joke there is
How else would you like to judge whether athletes are receiving an education? They are students before they're athletes.tekekini wrote:graduation rates are a joke..anyone who transfers or leaves early, which OSU has had a lot of, counts against you. That's crazy talk. I'm stealing this from a fan on the Indiana University message board:BGDrew wrote:They are students before they're athletes.
"tosu isn't much of an academic institution but it sure is one hell of a business."
If you think people on here dislike osu, go to a B11 message board and talk about osu and see what they think.
honestly. can you honestly tell me greg oden went there with any intent on getting an education?
you are a fool if you think so.
It would make a little more sense if those who transfer did not count against you. they may transfer from osu to kent state and graduate, but OSU would not get credit for it where Kent state would..it is bogus

So Tek - are you saying that OSU could care less about academics and cares only about athletics?
Is that why they gave a guy a scholarship to go to school for one year? So they could win a National Championship?
Are they that desperate for a National Championship that they would forgo giving a kid that wanted to play basketball at OSU for four years and get a degree from the institution the opportunity to attend just so they could win a National Championship with a guy who will only be there for one year? This is the great institution you keep hyping?

For the record, when they take out the transfers and those that leave early for the pros, OSU was still only up to about 38%, I believe, for the hoops team.

So, if BG has a chance to sign the next Greg Oden, and he wanted to come to BG, they wouldn't offer him a scholarship because they want their BB players to be there for 4 years?transfer2BGSU wrote:So Tek - are you saying that OSU could care less about academics and cares only about athletics?

It'd be a pretty big waste of a schollie in the first place. Especially if you knew the guy was leaving early.SW-MI Falcon wrote:So, if BG has a chance to sign the next Greg Oden, and he wanted to come to BG, they wouldn't offer him a scholarship because they want their BB players to be there for 4 years?transfer2BGSU wrote:So Tek - are you saying that OSU could care less about academics and cares only about athletics?

Bullshit. You take the talented player. There is no guarantee he'll leave early. He may enjoy our town/girls/whatever, and stick around for a 2nd year. He may end up being really, really good, but not quite as originally advertised and decide he needs more seasoning. Whatever the case, you take the talented player.BGDrew wrote:It'd be a pretty big waste of a schollie in the first place.
