Middle Tennessee Loses
73-59 to Marist. Marist becomes the 3rd #13 seed in history to make the Sweet 16. Damn!

It was a debacle that will go down in the history books as the single worst defeat in the history of Middle Tennessee athletics because of who the opponent was and what they are from and what the game meant at the time it was played.
Middle Tennessee has never been to the Sweet 16 and an MAAC team sneaks in and goes ahead of us in just one year. Oh well, life sucks.
The loss is a blow to the Sun Belt. Middle Tennessee did not match up well with Marist at all. Their three guards set ruined our game. Apparently it's a flaw in our system that was never addressed. Plus, Marist did play their best game ever in the history of that school. How could any other game supercede that?
I still believe that Middle Tennessee was the only non-Power Six school in the Dayton Regional with any legitimate shot at knocking off one of the Top 3 seeds because we actually match up better with Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Maryland than we do with Marist's style. We beat Georgia on the road. We beat Old Dominion by 15 so we were really REALLY good. It just wasn't our night.
But Tennessee is a very talented team and Pat Summitt is the THE BEST in the game. There's no way Tennessee loses to Pitt or Marist's little Red Foxes. It's not even in doubt. Tennessee will name their score and could beat Marist by 40 if they wanted to.
