Good. Its still better to go to Minnesota. Sure, its farther but we have a better shot at beating the Gophers than the Spartans I think. Both have new head coaches, but MSU has Dantonio, who is just phenomenal, and I don't know a thing about Minnesota's new coach, which doesn't say anything good about him. And, MSU has more talent coming from last year than Minnesota does. Also, MSU's band is much better than Minnesota's so there's a better chance of the FMB putting on a better received show at Minnesota than MSU.
but it's still too expensive...i guess i'm counting on NO trips. :(

FYI you've been invited to play at the Bay High band show in 2007.

I truly hope that's sarcasm. If not, ask about Marshall in '01. Or the Motor City bowl from '03. I can continue.

I'm pretty sure that's the WHOLE role, that and I think most of the Big 10+ bands travel to all away games.
I wouldn't say most. Michigan goes only to OSU, MSU, and ND. OSU goes to Michigan and one or two other big games, sometimes more. Penn State goes to a couple of big ones each year. Iowa only seems to go to Minnesota and Wisconsin. Minnesota seems to only go to Iowa and Wisconsin. Northwestern will go to Illinois and one other big one. Illinois will go to Northwestern and one or two other big ones. Indiana goes to Purdue and take your pick of OSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Purdue goes to Indiana and one other big one. I think you see the pattern.

Anyway, Wisconsin is the band that travels the most, followed by OSU, and then its really one to two games a year traveled by the other Big 10 bands.
Which would kind of prove my point, no? That's a majority of the away games for most teams anyway.

Really? That'd be AWESOME! I would try to bring myself to say "Go ro**ets" at this point, but I just can't quite do it... :-D

Band trips

Post by falcongirl17 »

Personally I would rather see the band perform more at the football games than the high school shows. I know we "have to do them" but still I would rather see the FMB on the field of a football stadium playing in front of the Falcons than at some high school show.

No, that's around two for most bands, three for some. Most teams go to five or six away games, unless it's like Michigan or Ohio State and refuse to leave the home stadium.

Who's "Most?" Thats like an eight-year-old telling his Mom that "Everyone's got the new Jordan's," when "everyone" is really just about 2 or 3 kids he barely knows from school.

So every season I compile all the schedules for all the teams from both the Big 10 and the MAC, as those two conferences I follow the most, along with other teams that I follow and keep track of who beats who. Now that all the schedules are released, I've been making a spreadsheet of schedules of all of those teams and will soon be making predictions of the outcomes. So, from there, here's some Big 10 schedules in 2007.
Big 10 team's away games (from the athletic departments' web sites)

Penn State:
9/22/07 At Michigan
9/29/07 At Illinois
10/20/07 At Indiana
11/10/07 At Temple
11.17/07 At Michigan State

(5 away games)

Ohio State:
9/15/07 At Washington
9/29/07 At Minnesota
10/6/07 At Purdue
10/27/07 At Penn State
11/17/07 At Michigan

(5 away games)

Michigan:
9/29/07 At Northwestern
10/20/07 At Illinois
11/3/07 At Michigan State
11/10/07 At Wisconsin

(4 away games)

Michigan State:
9/22/07 At Notre Dame
9/29/07 At Wisconsin
10/20/07 At Ohio State
10/27/07 At Iowa
11/10/07 At Purdue

(5 away games)

Indiana:
9/8/07 At Western Michigan
9/29/07 At Iowa
10/13/07 At Michigan State
10/27/07 At Wisconsin
11/10/07 At Northwestern

(5 away games)

Purdue:
9/1/07 At Toledo
9/22/07 At Minnesota
10/13/07 At Michigan
11/3/07 At Penn State
11/17/07 At Indiana

(5 away games)

Illinois:
9/15/07 At Syracuse
9/22/07 At Indiana
10/13/07 At Iowa
11/3/07 At Minnesota
11/10/07 At Ohio State

(5 away games)

Northwestern:

9/22/07 At Ohio State
10/6/07 At Michigan State
10/27/07 At Purdue
11/17/07 At Illinois

(4 away games)

Iowa:
9/1/07 At Northern Illinois
9/15/07 At Iowa State
9/22/07 At Wisconsin
10/6/07 At Penn State
10/20/07 At Purdue
11/3/07 At Northwestern

(6 away games)

Wisconsin:

9/8/07 At UNLV
10/6/07 At Illinois
10/13/07 At Penn State
11/3/07 At Ohio State
11/17/07 At Minnesota

(5 away games)

Minnesota:

9/15/07 At FAU
10/6/07 At Indiana
10/13/07 At Northwestern
10/27/07 At Michigan
11/10/07 At Iowa

(5 away games)

That's 8 Big 10 teams with 5 away games, 1 with 6 away games, which means 9 of the 11 Big 10 teams, or most, have 5 or 6 away games. Because the Big 10 teams play 8 conference games, 4 home 4 away, they have 4 nonconference teams because everyone is on a 12 team schedule now. The only way to get only 4 road games is to play the entire nonconference schedule at home. That pretty much takes either the planets lining up correctly as far as contracts to play other teams goes, or it takes an athletic director, such as Michigan's guy, who really likes to bring in the big bucks by filling up his stadium for more games and only schedules teams who won't demand a home and home series and will be happy with the money earned by playing at a huge venue. This is the first time I can think of that Northwestern has managed all nonconference games at home, so for them I would say the planets lined up correctly. Michigan plays the entire OOC schedule at home almost every other year, as they really only leave the Big House for nonconference games for Notre Dame, or if they have a really good reason to do so.
