Dan Dakich to be a LOBO?!?!?!?!

Post by FalkinCruiser »

News possibly out of Lobo Land (New Mexio that is) that Dan Dakich will be hired as an ASSISTANT to new Coach Steve Alford.

Connections
Paul Krebs AD - we already know the connection.

Indiana Basketball - Dakich was an assistant during Steve Alford's steller career as a Hoosier - if you didn't know that one, where the heck have you been or what are you drinking?

Their kids all love Sesame Street - but hey, who doesn't?

I love to break SCOOPS like this BTW!!!

I think METZ is right in saying "maybe" - but some some NM sources indicate this is pretty close to being final. Nothing is final until you are fired though (or "resign in the best interest of the University" that is).

I saw names that went together and made my assumption off of that. If it happens, I will feel smart for once! And hey, at least there will be no conflict on the strange pregame meal Bob Knight has passed to his past coaches and players.

Lets hope he doesn’t take Chris Knight with him. He describes him as not a good player but a great player..

He also said Corey Eyink would win 3 MAC POY awards. Dan had a tendency to be a bit hyperbolic at times ;)

Right. I hope Chris Knight is a good player. We can keep the Nate Thurmond references for later.

Hey...I got to meet with Krebs and Alford last night and while I was chatting with Krebs, he called Alford over and told him I graduated from BG in 01. Alford said something like that's cool, what'd you think of Dakich? I told him I liked him a lot and he said "thats good. I think everyone here will too..." so I just thought that was kinda interesting...so we'll see! I'm excited. I hope that they can get the lobos going again!

That's strong. It's pretty obvious where this is headed.

Nice first post.

Welcome to the board! I have two aunts that live in Albuquerque, so it's nice to know when I go visit them, I won't be the only one wearing the orange and brown.

You REALLY think Dakich is going to be an assistant???

Post by VDub26Falcon »

I gotta be honest here...I really don't think that Dakich is going to take an assistant job anywhere but Texas Tech. That is unless Alford is getting looked at by other schools and Dakich will eventually get promoted to head man at New Mexico. We do know how much of a hard on Krebsy has for Coach Dakich. I will be honest, I wish he would've gone for an extension here...we MIGHT have gotten #23's kid.

If he wants to coach at the D1 level again he will. Nobody in their right mind is hiring him as a head coach with his track record. It's real hard to sell a fanbase on a guy that's had such a poor record the past 5 seasons.

Alford got canned at Iowa and has been a Lobo for like a week now. Doubt very seriously if he's looking at other jobs. Dan could eventually get promoted if he does a good job as an assistant, but that would be a couple years down the road.

Our chance's of landing the Jordan boy were slim before, and likely none now. However, if you truly believe Dan just decided he didn't want an extension you're kidding yourself. He was told he had no chance in hell of getting an extension and was given the chance to resign rather than get canned. That's the way these things work.

BTW, love your sig. Coach honestly thinks the reason we have been so horrible in recent years is injury. That's EXACTLY the sort of stubbornness and closed-mindedness that make me happy to look in a new direction.

Seriously!! I'm tired of being the only one wearing BG! Although I do make my family and friends wear some orange haha...I did manage to get one of my friends out to go to school out there!!
The only time I run into BG alum is at the Balloon Fiesta! That's always fun!
