Look at Bob Lindsey at Kent and Mark Ehlen at Toledo. They were the "mid-major coach of the moment" a few years back and they decided to stay put or...didn't get any offers.

I think Curt has a serious decision to make...leave BG for a "big time" program where he will be paid handsomely but with big time pressure, or stay at BG and coach another 25 years and raise his family in Northeast Ohio. There are no guarantees with either scenario.

I agree with your thought process regarding his stock and it's a risk if he doesn't take somehing right now.......but I have 2 counter thoughts. First....Jim Christian at Kent keeps waiting for the job he wants and his stock continues to be high because he re-loads each year and keeps his program at the top of the conference.....the 20 plus wins every year doesn't hurt. Ehlen and Lindsey didn't keep the momentum they had built alive so there the sit....right where they are at. I fail to believe, for even a second, that Curt will ever have problems with recruiting and will be able to re-load and keep his name at the top of the mid major coaching list.

My 2nd thought....and I HATE to say this while out of fear that I'll be disrespecting the wonderful class that has made such a tremendous impact over the last 4 years...is that this class coming in is so good, they COULD wind up exceeding what this group accomplished. When the current class came in, they were probably a 3 star recruting class by MAC standards who became 5 star. This class is argueably a 4.5 star class by MAC standards who, under the guidence of all,or even a portion of the current coaching staff, might hit 5 star before they complete their Freshman year. Curt might have more success with this group than he could have with whatever grop he would inherit at a bigger school....ie: big dance appearances and success. This leads us right back to dollars and cents. Something Curt has already declared is NOT his prime motivator. I think a LOT of coaches would dream of possibly having a 7-peat....or 2 3-peats in 7 years.....something that is not out of bounds to consider as a possibility at BG.

Well, we don't know anything about Ehlen or Lindsay when they were having their success. They either didn't get any offers, didn't get any offers they felt comfortable with, or got job offers but wanted to stay at their current jobs. The fact is, there is plenty of precedent for good "mid-major" coaches to stay for long periods of time and success.

As far as Curt's "decision", I have no doubt he'll probably receive some interest, but he hasn't interviewed anywhere yet as far as we know. Until it's confirmed he went somewhere to talk with an administrator at a school with an opening, I'm not taking any rumors seriously. To be honest, he's only even been rumored to be a candidate at 2 jobs. Michigan, which is almost certainly not happening, and Louisville, because of the connection with the previous coach.

There are 3 things I keep coming back to. #1 -- he's not getting an elite job, like Texas or LSU. #2, I don't think he'd take a job like Michigan. I don't think that's enough of a step up in salary or prestige for him to leave. #3 -- there are demographic factors that aren't in Curt's favor.

Louisville scares me a bit, but past that, I don't see an opening that he would be both interested in and a viable candidate for.

Even if he does end up leaving, the timing is perfect with a whole new group coming in and an extremely capable successor.

If Curt does leave can Roos step in and take over from her head assistant position? Could she make more as Curt's assistant at a BCS school like Michigan?

Assistants at UM probably make something like 90K. My guess is if Curt would leave, all of his assistants except one would go with him, and that person would likely get the BG job. Any ideas who that might be?

It's also probably important to understand that head coaches also look at a move up as a way to reward their assistants financially.

If Curt were to leave, my guess is we would elevate Jen to HC. She would probably keep Brandi as her AHC. Kevin could either go with Curt or stay here. He has said in the past that he enjoys many of the things an Assistant Coach does and right now is not out looking to be the head man.

I think Jen is ready to be a head coach. This staff has received numerous inquiries over the past years.

I agree transfer and if Curt does leave the university should announce Jen as head coach that same day, as I wouldn't be surprised if some smaller programs were considering her for a next head coach. As for Brandi and Kevin, if Curt leaves I think one of them will follow Curt and the other will stay

This is the most likely scenario should Miller move on.

I'll gladly take Jen Roos and Brandi Poole as our HC and Assistant Coach if Miller moves on and if Eckhart were to stay that'd be cool too. This would the be best scenerio if Miller were to leave (which I hope isn't for a long time).

There are multiple names on PSU's short list, and as of right now, Curt Miller is not one of them.

I'm hearing Suzie McConnel-Serio, Angie Pothoff (ND assistant), and ASU's coach, Charlie Turner-Thorne. Dana Eikenberg is also on the radar, but SIU has not yet been contacted about her. They will probaby hire somebody with PSU ties, and will almost certainly hire a woman.
