Look at Bob Lindsey at Kent and Mark Ehlen at Toledo. They were the "mid-major coach of the moment" a few years back and they decided to stay put or...didn't get any offers.
I think Curt has a serious decision to make...leave BG for a "big time" program where he will be paid handsomely but with big time pressure, or stay at BG and coach another 25 years and raise his family in Northeast Ohio. There are no guarantees with either scenario.
I agree with your thought process regarding his stock and it's a risk if he doesn't take somehing right now.......but I have 2 counter thoughts. First....Jim Christian at Kent keeps waiting for the job he wants and his stock continues to be high because he re-loads each year and keeps his program at the top of the conference.....the 20 plus wins every year doesn't hurt. Ehlen and Lindsey didn't keep the momentum they had built alive so there the sit....right where they are at. I fail to believe, for even a second, that Curt will ever have problems with recruiting and will be able to re-load and keep his name at the top of the mid major coaching list.
My 2nd thought....and I HATE to say this while out of fear that I'll be disrespecting the wonderful class that has made such a tremendous impact over the last 4 years...is that this class coming in is so good, they COULD wind up exceeding what this group accomplished. When the current class came in, they were probably a 3 star recruting class by MAC standards who became 5 star. This class is argueably a 4.5 star class by MAC standards who, under the guidence of all,or even a portion of the current coaching staff, might hit 5 star before they complete their Freshman year. Curt might have more success with this group than he could have with whatever grop he would inherit at a bigger school....ie: big dance appearances and success. This leads us right back to dollars and cents. Something Curt has already declared is NOT his prime motivator. I think a LOT of coaches would dream of possibly having a 7-peat....or 2 3-peats in 7 years.....something that is not out of bounds to consider as a possibility at BG.
