Miller To Talk To UM
I don't know if it counts for a whole lot, but Curt has fantastic relationships with all of his players. I've always thought that things as such make decision making a little harder. These girls here aren't just his pupils, they are his friends. He has earned every once of their respect, and they have also earned his. That kind of personal involvement makes a decision like this all the more difficult.
Yeah right girl!

A couple of thoughts here.
One: I agree with those who argue against Cincinnati as a wise or reasonable choice for Curt Miller.
The Big East is most certainly not always better -- not for a women's basketball coach trying to start a program from way behind.
Is Miller ever realistically going to dethrone Connecticut? With Cincinnati? And that's about what it would take to get the spotlight there.
Also, for Bleeding Orange's benefit, it's worth pointing out that this thread started with someone noting a Detroit News story indicating that Miller was cleared to interview with Michigan.
That's news, and a reason for a thread. I'm glad someone pointed it out. It's good to know.

Schade, I realized that about midway through typing my original post. Either way, my opinion still stands. I have had a HORRIBLE cold for the past three days (thanks expressly to J4H's wife (she'd better make me a sandwich sometime, J4H)), and I was just too lazy to cut and paste and put it back in the proper thread. I still think my points have merit, though.Schadenfreude wrote: Also, for Bleeding Orange's benefit, it's worth pointing out that this thread started with someone noting a Detroit News story indicating that Miller was cleared to interview with Michigan.
And in all seriousness, if anyone has a better remedy for a callous on the nose than chap stick, I'd appreciate hearing it. This has been so little fun the feeling is indescribable.

Yeah -- I got it too. I can guarantee I had more fun getting it than you did though.Bleeding Orange wrote:Schade, I realized that about midway through typing my original post. Bingo. Leaving for Cinci is leaving to be fired. It's not just UConn, either. He would be significantly behind Rutgers, Marquette, and Notre Dame as well. He would also be in a lesser position than Louisville, West Virginia, and Pittsburgh. One could even argue Cinci is a worse location than DePaul, Seton Hall, and South Florida. He would be in the bottom 25% of the conference to start, and it would take 5 years to get in to the top third, if everything broke perfectly for him. Would he be given that much time with the pressure of a higher salary and the bigger spotlight? Maybe. Probably not though.Schadenfreude wrote:

On the other hand, who is ahead of Bowling Green in the MAC? SWM St, ODU, and LA Tech all crafted national powerhouses in women's basketball from small conferences. It is possible for Miller to do the same here, and I'm sure he realizes that. Can he craft a National Powerhouse at UC, or Michigan? Anything's possible, but that would be an incredibly difficult road, when he can be a legend and enjoy almost lifetime job security in a place he likes. Maybe that's more important than money to him, and maybe it isn't. The administration at BG is surely working with Curt currently on negotiating a more favorable compensation package. It won't be in the 300k range, but why not get his whole compensation package into the 200k range, with much larger bonuses for NCAA tourney success? He's earned that much just by looking at the attendance increase. That would at least be competitive with what mid-level "BCS" schools such as Michigan, UC, and Louisville would offer.
Granted, if he has 4 or 5 more years here like the last one, it's very possible an amazing opportunity could come along. Something in the Tennessee/Duke/Texas range. Programs like that could offer massive salaries and prestige that would be incredibly difficult to pass up. However, right now, Miller is not on the radar for those jobs.

J4H and I go way back, and I don't know BO from Adam, but to lecture anyone on here that it's "classless" to have this discussion after BG's run smacks more than a little of the BG-colored glasses syndrome.
When is everyone supposed to talk about it? When he leaves? When he says "he's got a lot of work left here," a la someone else we know?
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease get off your high horse and stop lecturing. Please? They had a good run, yes. That good run will net Miller a new job and a raise, no? Seems to me the two are very much related and thus should be talked about in the same breath. There’s no disparaging BG’s run at all. It’s a fact of life.
I also think it's delusional to even entertain Miller being here next year, but I've been wrong before.
I ALSO think it's naive for J4H to take every little comment that might disparage BG in the slightest and attempt to discount it. It's OK if the Big East is a better spot for him than BG. It's OK if Michigan is a better spot.
That doesn't mean BG is bad. There are better places, though ... plenty of them.

It's absolutely OK if he thinks another school is a better place for him. He may decide that tomorrow and be gone forever. I just think that 90% of the people around here are 100% sure he's gone, and I'm trying to give those folks some additional factors to think about before they assume that. I think this fan base is flashing back to the Urban Meyer situation, and the two situations couldn't be more different.
The only jobs that even concern Miller at this point are BG and Michigan. He might think Michigan is the better choice for him. I certainly don't, and I don't think he will either. I don't feel I'm being naive in the slightest. Every argument I've made has been backed up by logical reasoning and certain small details I'm aware of that many may not be. I'm hardly an orange goggles guy, and I haven't once just said "BG is AWESOME!! of course he'll be here next year you idiots!".
