Please don't use the word "quality" and the name of any MAC team from last season in the same sentence ever again.Brandon has won games against quality opponents. Even last year...we beat them OU bobkits at OU.

I agree as well. With the team Kent had that year, it didn't take a great coaching job to get them to the Elite 8. They were just that damn good. It was Gary Waters' team. I'd pass on Heath Bar.BleedOrange wrote:That's what I think. I damned year at Kent. Heath's a dime-a-dozen. Pass.San Diego Falcon wrote:Was he really? Or did he just come along for the ride with an outstanding class for one season at Kent?he was a great coach in the MAC not that long ago.

Did CMU really beat the tar outta us last year? I don't think so. It was 2 or 3 big plays that won that game for CMU. The int return for a TD. The 88 yard crossing pattern we got burned on for a TD. Those two plays alone cost us 14 points...and we lost to CMU by 17. Plus, FB had that bum ankle and we couldn't use him as much as we wanted.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:CMU was a quality team, but then again, they beat the tar out of us.

Gotta agree. I'm tired of people hammering Brandon all day and night.
I'll join you on that "I told you so" train when it pulls into the station this year.
< a month til the Spring Game. I know I am an eternal optimist. Just the way I am.

I'm going to let this conversation end at this point. We all know how we all feel at this point about the coaching situation of our football team.
I will just add a couple things.
1) Freak, I know you're the ultimate optimist, but I find it funny you still think Gregg Brandon is a good coach yet give little credit to Stan Heath. Yes, he inherited Waters' team and did well with it. What more has Gregg Brandon done? He inherited a monster built by Urban, won with that group, and as they left the team has gone WAY downhill. The only difference is Brandon wasn't given a better job after year one; he stuck around to prove his deficiencies.
2) Flipper, how you grade a coach is up to you, but I ALWAYS do so against the expectations. To me coaching is completely, 100% all about what you do against expectations. The situation that Meyer came into had far fewer expectations than what Brandon came into.
3) I think grading a coach is a very subjective thing as well. I do it based on the quality of play. I watch enough football that I can very easily pick out which teams are well coached and which are not. We have been consistently not well coached based on the things I've seen in the past 4 years. Poor fundamentals, poor playcalling the last 2 years, big time lack of adjustments, come out flat in a number of big games, and of course the Special Teams.
I guess it comes down, again, to expectations. If your expectations are purely about winning in the MAC, then I guess Brandon does just fine. The MAC has just been brutally bad the last 2 seasons, so we're giftwrapped at least 4 conference wins. Win an extra one or two and you're competing for a title in a very weak conference.
My expectations are different. I think if you're getting quality coaching you should consistently be at or near the very top of this conference. As a whole the group is so weak, years like last year's would not happen with quality coaching.
I have nothing against Gregg Brandon as a person. He's always been a great guy, and pretty approachable. Heck, I'd love to hire him back as an Offensive Coordinator in the future. I just don't see him as a quality head coach.
