I'm not too sad another Purdue person won't be coming here. What do people think of Jerry Dunn? B10 coaching experience and has been around some good teams at West Va. I wouldn't mind if he got the job.

I think we may go coachless for '07-'08... or perhaps have a player/coach in Nate Miller. Think of the budgetary savings for the athletic department!!

It will be coaching by committee. Each player will be in charge of a different aspect of the game.

I don’t have much of an opinion on Dunn, but a guy I work with went to Penn State and worked in the athletic department while Dunn was there. He said many felt Dunn wasn't a very good head coach at all. What’s more, he said the players called Dunn "Captain Dippy"....as in Dip-s**t. His words, not mine.

OK, well maybe we don't want Captain Dippy taking over. I knew Penn State wasn't and still isn't a powerhouse in basketball but I thought he could have brought something he learned through the B11 and East here. Maybe not. It will be interesting to see who GC picks.

Dunn very well could be a good candidate and a good head coach again, that was just the information that was passed along to me from him and his take on Dunn and what the department in general felt. I guess what was most concerning was the lack of respect that he said was there for Dunn. But every time I hear Dunn’s name, all I can think about is “Captain Dippy.” :)

The University is required to post the job/make it available to anyone who would want to apply. Doesn't mean that the AD can't go to candidates asking them to apply.

A couple things:

1. The process is taking too long. The only justification for this delay is waiting to interview OSU's Alan Major in greater depth and perhaps bring him to the campus. Multiple D-I positions that came open later than BG have already been filled, and I doubt all those AD's are making hasty decisions. There's a fine line between thoughtful deliberation and unneccesary stagnation and delay. The new coaches have already got a jump on recruiting and hiring their 3 man coaching staff.

2. Hipsher is a volitile personality much like Dakich and already proved he couldn't field a consistenty successful team in the MAC. Hiring him would set the program back 10 years.

2. Dunn's age and the collapse of the Penn State program under his watch make me extremely nervous about giving him another shot. There was an ESPN article recently on how college coaching has become a young man's game because of the travel and recruiting demands, and I just don't think the energy and motivation would be there in this case.

4. There is a great opportunity for a hungy reporter in the Toledo market-whether in the Blade, the BG News or elsewhere-to fill this void, do some sniffing around and find out what's going on: who are the serious candidates, who has interviewed, ect. Unless Greg Christopher has morphed into the invisible man, it shouldn't take much more than simple elbow grease to uncover this information and report it to the fans.

I've got a feeling we'll have an answer sooner rather than later...

I'm also going to take a stab and guess that it'll be someone none of us have considered very hard.

My final prediction is that some of us will like the decision, while others of us will not.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who laughed out loud at that line!

I think it is the guy directly to the left of the words I type as you are looking at the screen.

It would make sense as to why it was quiet and he has Ohio and Purdue ties. IF we get him and hold on to Lamonta Stone I will be happy.
