I'm at the point that I would rather have a coach that wants to be here and build a nice program, than just a great young assistant that is looking to leave after a year or two.
I believe Greg C. wants to build something special at BG and he's slowly putting the pieces together. It should be interesting to see future hires, building projects, sponsors and other money he can bring in during his tenure.

So Orr puts a couple of good years together at BG and draws intrest from say...Clemson...you don't think he isn't going to jump at the chance to get back into the "big time?"Tricky_Falcon wrote:I'm at the point that I would rather have a coach that wants to be here and build a nice program, than just a great young assistant that is looking to leave after a year or two.

Even if Orr is only here for a season or two season, but guides us to a MAC Championship and the NCAA Tournament, I'll be happy as hell. BG has never won a MAC Tournament title and hasn't been to the NCAA Tournament since 1968. Anyone that can lead us to both of those can do whatever he wants after that IMO. I just want to experience it once in my lifetime. We're approaching 40 years since we last went dancing and I want to see it happen more than anything else for our program.Rollo83 wrote:So Orr puts a couple of good years together at BG and draws intrest from say...Clemson...you don't think he isn't going to jump at the chance to get back into the "big time?"Tricky_Falcon wrote:I'm at the point that I would rather have a coach that wants to be here and build a nice program, than just a great young assistant that is looking to leave after a year or two.

Do I think he will be here longer than a year or two? Or lets just say longer than Urban Meyer. Yes I do.Rollo83 wrote:So Orr puts a couple of good years together at BG and draws intrest from say...Clemson...you don't think he isn't going to jump at the chance to get back into the "big time?"Tricky_Falcon wrote:I'm at the point that I would rather have a coach that wants to be here and build a nice program, than just a great young assistant that is looking to leave after a year or two.

Bullshit. You don't know what was going on with Orr when those jobs were open. Those openings occurred at different points in time. Plus, those choices were made by different AD's with different priorities, connections, and world views.Rollo83 wrote:So the BG job was so head and shoulders above the others that he didn't even bother to make an inquiry or put out a feeler? I don't believe that for a minute. I just think that those other MAC schools looked at the all the candidates avialable, inlcuding Lou, and decided to go in a different direction.Flipper wrote:Because he didn't want to coach at those schools so he never applied for the jobs?
Another reason why your argument sucks is that it could be made for any new hire, any time, anywhere. Was Coach K a bad hire at Duke because some other school could've hired him but didn't? Enough!

Bottom line is four MAC head coaching positions were filled and he was without a job. Not once did his name surface during those searches.BleedOrange wrote:Bullshit. Great point, I wish I had made it earlier.ZiggyZoomba wrote:And I'll add to this... a seasoned and successful NBA veteran big-man coaching Otis and teaching the team how to USE a big man.... Who did they hire in comparison? What kinds of coaches did they bring in? Is there something we are taking on that is not evident from his resume?Rollo83 wrote:So the BG job was so head and shoulders above the others that he didn't even bother to make an inquiry or put out a feeler? How closely did you follow Sienna and Seton Hall?Rollo83 wrote:I see a lot of comparisons between Lou and Stan Heath. Both got their first head coaching job at a mid-major program and had immediate success with someone else’s players...Lou at Siena and Stan at Kent.
Then after only one year they both land jobs at “big time” programs…Lou in the Big East at Seton Hall and Stan in the SEC at Arkansas.
They both failed to live-up to expectations, unrealistic or otherwise, at their respective “big conference” schools despite some limited success.
Now the both end up back with head coaching gigs at places like South Florida and BG.
That’s why I would have rather seen a hot assistant get he BG job. I want the bigger programs to be coming after my head coach. That means you are having success. Curt Miller on the women’s side is a perfect example. I just think we have hired one of those guys who tend to bounce around.
You know how you get a gut feeling about watching a team play? You say, man that guy can coach, or can recruit, or both. I have never had that feeling about one of Lou’s teams.
I guess only time will tell, but I am excite at the prospects of new era of basketball at BG.

Or as someone else said, we can do that now. The Fl0rr.
Didn't take long for the new coach to get s*it on.....
