Couldn't stop laughing

Post by thedrum »

Reading today's ESPN.com chat with Kirk Herbsteit when I came across this Q&A. I couldn't stop laughing.

"James (Orlando, FL): If Utah goes undefeated and still gets locked out of a BCS bowl, would that nudge Urban Meyer closer to coaching at a BCS conference university?

Kirk Herbstreit: Urban Meyer is not going to leave Salt Lake City unless he gets a chance to coach at a Top 5 caliber school. He enjoys the people and the location at Utah to much to leave it for just any BCS job. It will take a dream job opportunity to pull Urban out of Utah."

Am I just crazy or do I remember Meyer saying something similar about BG? Good luck to Utah! Have fun finding a new head coach for next season!
If you wanna feel funky, feel free. Just please don't spread that funk on me!

Until Urban comes out and says I like Utah and will be back next year, I don't see him going anywhere. He has to build up that false hope within the community before he takes off.

it wont take a top 5 spot for him to leave, all it tales a quadrupling his paycheck. and to do that, he'll be a a BCS school. I bet he goes to any top 25 team that makes his a decent offer. Look whats hes done to BG and Utah's programs? He can do that to a bigger school too. and take them from a bowl team, to a BCS bowl team. Had he been at Purdue this yeah, o man, to think of how that offense would have continued to soar, rather than sputter out. A team like that, or maybe a Cal or team like that would be a great fit for him. But im sure he wouldnt mind jumping right into a nat'l contender powerhouse team either.

No, Urbie's definitely staying in Salt Lake.

Direct quotes:
"We are nowhere near what we can do here. That's what's driving me right now," Meyer said Tuesday afternoon. "Everybody's worried about those other places; nothing's going on."

"I was contacted by one, but I'm not interested. I love it here. We have a lot of work to do. That's the bottom line."

"With recruits, that's been for two years, even before we won," he said. "(They say) "that guy's not going to be there very long"; that's silly ... The future is fantastic here ... I'm proud to be the football coach here."

Oh, wait, never mind. Those quotes were from the Sentinel-Tribune, a couple days before Meyer was introduced at Utah.
I'm not as cool as Tony Gaver, nor will I ever be.
