National Champions are in CCHA

Post by WhoDeyBG »

MSU comes back and beats BC 2-1. We beat MSU 2-1 on the last day of the regular season. I guess anyone can get hot. Lerg played great.

Well, that solves it, BGSU are the National Champions.

Congrats to the Egg Suckers. I'd like to think we gave MSU that final wake up call that they needed to win it all.

BC have another "Big" let down

Post by bulldog85 »

After losing to Wisconsin last year BC are beaten 3-1 by MSU. Great effort by a CCHA team.

That game was awesome. I didn't really realize it was on, but just happened to see it as I was flipping channels. I would pretty much have been happy either way, but I was pulling for BC. Gotta feel for them, losing the game in such dramatic fashion this year and last, but it was certainly fun to watch.

I was pulling for BC as well, but got busy at work after they went up 1-0. Would have been nice to see Coach York add another trophy after all he's been through in recent years.

But even though it's some egg suckers, I can't complain too much about the CCHA bringing home another championship to wave at the clowns to the east and to the west of us.

the final was actually 3-1. michigan state scored with 1 second to go in the game on the empty net. just thought i'd throw that out there since nobody has mentioned it yet.

I was starting to think I had dreamt up that empty netter.

It's always good to see a CCHA team achieve in the postseason. Like I said before, Michigan is the only one I really can't root for. MSU may be Egg Suckers, but they are our Egg Suckers.

Use it as a recruiting tool. Come to BG and go toe-to-toe with the best. If these kids think they have what it takes to play NHL hockey, what better proving ground.

CCHA is now 9-2 all-time in title games. Hockey East is 4-13.

Yes, there was an empty netter with 1.7 seconds left. You did not imagine that, BO. Neither did Brett Motherwell, as evidenced by the shattering of his stick on the goalpost when the puck went in. Hehehe.

Dunno if this was on TV or not, but when MSU scored the empty netter, the bench cleared and they all went out to Lerg's goal to celebrate. BC was pretty much shell shocked. Then the off-ice officials or arena people or whoever put 1.7 back on the clock, because that's how much time was left when the goal was scored. Technically, the referees could have cleared the ice and assessed MSU a delay of game penalty (and I believe there are coaches out there that would have pushed for that) but Jerry York, being the class act that he is, told them to run the time back off the clock.

That save by Lerg was positively sick. Until then BC pretty much had the run of play and that was when the Spartans woke up and turned the momentum their way. Also, that move that Kennedy made behind the net to set up Abdelkader was phenomenonal. I had no idea who was crashing the net out front, but when Kennedy pulled that move to fend off Motherwell? from getting the puck, I knew the Spartans would score.

If you are a team in the NCAAs, you want me to do your +/-. You really do. My record is 7-1, including two of the last three national champions :)

what sucks for me is that i played against tim kennedy all throughout high school. he went to a south buffalo private school that we beat all the time until he got there and then he totally destroyed us. i guess you just cant win against certain people, lol. but it was cool to see him make the two plays that decided the game and then get an interview on national tv.

That was a great game and I got to say McConvey, That move by Jerry to just them run clock off for the last few seconds, was pure Class....some guys would have wanted to see a penalty and then play it, but to realized defeat like that was something els, I even saw him telling players not to feel bad, he was clearly proud of their effort, as he should be. That game had everything.
