Another UT player arrested (not Scootiegate related)

Post by Flipper »

Tailback Richard Davis was arrested overnight by an off duty sheriff's deputy when he attempted to break into the deputy's residence while carrying a shotgun.

Davis stated he thought it was his teammates house and that he was tryiing to "scare" him.

That's real smart.

Carry a weapon into the house of a law enforcement officer. He's extremely lucky to be able to say anything at all. After all, dead men tell no tales.

Six months later, a guy named Bubba was arrested for molesting a guard, but stated that he "thought it was Davis' ass and he was trying to 'scare' him".

Who ever though the flack they caught for bringing in Ray Williams would be considered mild compared with other Toledo running backs?

Amstutz needs to get control over that program.

I don't think it's going to be Amstutz's problem much longer.

I heard they're in talks with a guy named "Gary from Detroit" to be their next coach.

Here's Ch. 11's writeup on the story:

Sounds a little more than "trying to scare him", more like intimidation.

They confiscated a shotgun that was leaning against the house, and a handgun that was in Davis's car.

Nice....

That would be about the worst case scenario, don't you think? Either way, it's not good.

All of a sudden, out of season topics like where BGSU's spring game is to be played, the logo, and Peregrinner's call to arms for Beginner Recipes are all very appealing.

Can we give Richard Davis an honorary Darwin award for his actions?

A coaching change would be problematic. If Stutz were to resign, you might hve an easier time selling DC Tim Rose as a replacement...but he's still going to be tied to the current situation.

You aren't going to get a decent HC prospect until the point shaving thing is out in the open and the NCAA has done whatever it is they might do. Toledo could be a pretty attractive job if everything were out in the open, but with the point shaving thing where it is now...the job is a pig in a poke. Are you going on probation? How many players might you lose to arrest? How effectively can you recruit with a cloud hanging over the situation.

You'd have a hard time finding a quality long term replacement at this juncture. I think the best bet is to clamp down as hard as possible on the team and hope to ride it out. When the dust settles from the point shaving investigation and there's some certainty about the future, UT will have a much easier time finding a suitable replacement.

Yep, I'd be suprised if Amstutz is the guy leading the team when that dust has settled

Whatever else happens...I hope someone takes the opportunity to knock some sense into Richard Davis' head. You're getting a free (albeit substandard) education and you're going to piss that away so you can run around like an idiot with a shotgun?

Not only was there another gun in the car, but Don Imus was driving.

When Richard Davis calls "shotgun", he MEANS it!
