Kentucky Job Opens Up Today

The women's coach at Kentucky resigns today. I wouldn't be surprised to see Curt's named mentioned for this opening. The former coach was due to make $350,000 in base salary this coming year.

Someone on ukhoopsfans dropped is name in there speculation thread of possible coaches. They did also mention that he had just signed his new contract. Other than that I haven't heard a lot yet about who they are looking to interview. It is possible that they will promote from within. DeMoss did a great job here, Attendance went from 1600/game her first year to 5800/game this season. There will be a big drive to keep the success that she has built.

Two things:

1. As The Blade reports today, Miller's contract is not signed quite yet. There are a couple of small details still being worked out.
2. I can't picture Miller in Kentucky.

Maybe Bernadette Locke wants to return. Her name was being thrown around for the BG job (ahead of Roos, according to some people) if Miller had left.

I know what you mean but UK has the money, facilities and alumni support to make a lot of those warts on the State of Kentucky go away.

I mean this in the best possible way, but do you want Miller to leave? You're usually the first one to ask "What if" and always saying why he should leave.

Hell no! I have enjoyed sitting and talking with Curt the last couple of years at the MAC Tournament. He is about as good as it gets in collegiate athletics. Believe me...I have been exposed to some bad ones in my day.

However, I am also realistic enough to know that with just about every "major conference" job opening his name is going to surface...quickly. Not saying every one of those will appeal to him, and only he will be the one to know what is the right opportunity. You, me and the rest of us here are only left to speculate. However, I would like nothing better than for him to decide that BG is the best opportunity for him. But, I have to believe that sooner or later the financial future of him and his family will take precedent when mulling an offer over.

I don't disagree with your points. It's a much better situation than Cincinnati would have been. But I'm unconvinced, and I'll leave it at that.

A small blurb from a Michelle Voepel column about Miller -- didn't know where to put it.

"Finally, Wednesday was a big day for Miller, who took Bowling Green to the Sweet 16 this season and had got a restructured six-year deal (through 2013). I thought Miller and Temple's Dawn Staley would be two very highly sought-after coaches with all these openings, but for now they are staying put."

Kentucky would be intriguing for Miller, but my stance is this: A guy like Miller had 2 plays here. He could either stand pat with BG, and take the best opportunity that came his way, or mildly cash in an improved deal at BG and see what happens down the road. I don't think he's the type to sign an extension one day, and then go interview for jobs the next. If he was seriously entertaining throwing his hat into the ring for the remaining job openings, I seriously doubt he would've signed this extension when he did.

I hope we can stop talking about every opening out there soon. Curt Miller will be the coach of the BG women's team next season.

I would not be surprised if UK looks at Miller for the job, but I think their top choice will be MTSU's coach Rich Insell. I'm inclined to think UK will go with a woman though, like UK's all-time leading scorer Valerie Still. She's both played and coached in the WNBA and she's played in Italy and the ABL.

I'm glad the title of this thread didn't have the abbreviation for Kentucky. TG would have been bitterly disappointed when he found out it wasn't a thread about his favorite lubricant...
