It was over 4 years ago when Urban left. I'm way over that stuff. As far as rooting for the Gators? Absolutely. Why just yesterday I was talking with this guy at Jake's BB practice. He went to Akron and we talk a lot about the ZIps, BG and the MAC. But he's also a HUGE OSU fan and started in with the "The SHoe is soooooooooo special! There ain't a school on the planet like OSU" and all this other horsecrap. I told him "I'm a bit of a Gators fan!". The dude rolled his eyes and didn't say another word. Seeing an OSU fan shut his piehole that fast was priceless. LOL!
From now on when any of these arrogant OSU fans start talking, I just say "Gator Bitches". Shuts them up quickly.
Urban moved on because the opportunities were there. I was mad as hell the way he left...but now? So what. It happens. He's given back for the Sebo Center and, IMO, still cares about BGSU.

It's hard to fault someone who leaves for career advancement. I don't know what he has done for BG since then, but I think this is a nice gesture on his part. To me, it shows that he still has some affinity for BG. I respect what he has done as a coach. I respect that he has done what he feels is in the best interest of his family. And you have to respect that BCS beatdown of Ohio State. That wasn't a nail biter by any stretch!
While I'm not into golf at all, I do think this a a great opportunity for the University to bring in some bucks. If they can fun raise some more money based off a former coach's noteriety, then I am all for it!
And one more note on the former coach, we really have him to thank for prying us out of the Gary Blackney blues!

Move On Man
I never understood why people got so upset that he moved on to Utah to begin with. If you had a job and someone else offered you a significant pay raise to a larger company chances are you would probably take it. Plus that is just a part of athletics at the college and pro level.
I was rooting for Florida every game....especially against the Buckeyes!

If, and when, I leave my current job I will have the balls to tell my employer I am looking for something else. It's a little thing called honesty that Urban Meyer seems to have never learned about. And for the record, if it were Jim Tressel or Lloyd Carr headlining the event I would be just as uninterested. I am glad Urban came to BG but he proved he was not "BG material" with his departure. If you want to know how I define "BG material" you can just look at Curt Miller. He keeps quiet until a decision has been made then is straight up about why said decision was made. Thats all I expect from a coach. If you are looking to move on then don't comment about it until the decision has been made. It's not that hard. I am not denying him the right to move on, just do it with some class. I really don't care what another coach has to say, I am only concerned with what OUR coaches have to say about how they will make their respective sports here at BG better next season.Flipper wrote:Don't be an ass...the man has every right to move up the ladder. The next time you get a chance to move onto a higher paying job will you turn it down or will you "sell out"?
Could he have handled his departure form BG better? Yes he could have. Is it worth getting angry about after all these years? No...not really.

Telling your current employer that you are interviewing for a different job is just about the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I would be telling my boss "I love it here and plan to retire from this company" right up until the moment I handed in my two weeks notice.

Nope...prospective boss has no business discussing you with your current employer unless you tell him/her that they can. I've known more than one manager that got caught in the HR ringer doing that kind of back channel checking ( I worked in a pretty small industry where most everyone wound up working for the same 1-3 companies at some time or another) It was pretty ugly...Schadenfreude wrote:You would if your current boss is tight with your prospective new boss.orangeandbrown wrote:Boy, not me.
