NHL Playoffs

Hockey Night In Canada was one of the things that I missed about leaving Bowling Green until I got the Center Ice package this year.

The networks in the U.S. (Vs., ESPN, etc.) really don't (or didn't) do that bad a job, but you can feel the passion for the game on CBC. The american networks treat hockey as just another sport.

That last part (Americans treating hockey as just another sport) is true. I don't like watching US broadcasts after growing up with CBC.

Another think I like (but I am admittedly biased) is that whenever Vancouver is on, they say that Kevin Bieksa went to Bowling Green. EVERY SINGLE GAME. They don't beat you over the head with it, but I like that they mention it. It gets our name out there and Canadian kids grow up watching this.

Plus he was on After Hours about a month ago and they talked to him rather extensively about Bowling Green and all the leagues he played in when he was little.

Bieksa missed Game 1 with Anaheim tonight. Phrases like "whiter than a shade of pale" and "blood work done" are not good ones anytime, much less in the middle of a 5-1 beating by the Ducks.

I do...I was watching HNIC on channel 9 from Windsor waaay back in the 1970's when only Europeans and sissies (ok, there was a lot of overlap there) wore helmets. When the sky was clear you could pick up the Habs out of Montreal on a portable TV with a decent set of rabbit ears stuck outside a second story window.

It killed me to watch the Leafs roll a 13-0 pasting on the Wings when I was in grade school.....never did forgive those SOB's. I really hate that Detroit is in the Western conference with this dumbass unbalanced schedule. Where are the Leafs, the Habs, the Bruins, the Rangers.....hey, I want my chance to see Ovechkin and Crosby too. Whooo...I get to see Jordan Tutu (pun intended) and the useless Sedin twins a gazillion times a year...BFD!!!

Anyway...I am tickled pink that the Wings stood up to the Flames physically and didn't get psyched out when Kiprasoff stood on his head for most of 6 games. A couple of years ago, Calgary pushed them to the outside on almost every rush and they wound up getting shots form angles that had no chance of beating an ECHL goalie, much less a top line NHL guy. This year they drove to the net and had guys bumping and screening that little ..... It made the difference.

The cup is coming back to Motown!!!
