Double Secret FMB Project (warning: lots of reading)

Well, its not really that secret...

To my knowledge (which is limited) there is no history type of video for the Falcon Marching Band. I have been approved on a step by step basis by Dr. Moss and Dr. Hayward to begin working on a history video type of project. The overall goal of this project is to get the current FMB in touch with our roots and traditions which have brought us to where we are today. This board is a wonderful rescource for such a project as it can allow me to reach back and connect to alumni all throughout the generations and eras of the FMB.

I am right now in the stage and process of creating a 'hard copy' of what I plan to do with this video so that I may present it to the powers that be and be approved to move farther into my endeavor. Here is a list of questions I plan to answer and people I plan to talk to about our beloved organization; PLEASE GIVE ME THINGS TO ADD TO THIS LIST!

How did the FMB start?
-Through an ROTC program?
-As a private student club?
The very first FMB:
-Who was first director
How many members
Chronology of FMB directors

People to interview: (I would love to expand this list)
Lou Marini
The Chief
Dr. Moss
Dr. Hayward
Ryan Nowlin
Other Former directors (this is information I havn't gotten much research on yet)
Various Alumni (sorry I don't many real names)
-High trumpet guy, RUIT, Delaine, The first twirler, the first maggot, alumni president, the list goes on forever...

Sorry if this seems like a narrative but I believe this project could be monumental. Any and ALL input is very much welcomed and appreciated. What about the service organizations? I seem to recall having to learn about the history of bands at Bowling Green Normal College for some membership test thing. But that was a while ago and I just learned things for the test.

I know there are some really cool pictures in early KEYS, football games where the clock tower is now, and very military-like uniforms.

This is a topic I was going to bring up when I started making some progress. I'll need any and all video's and pictures anyone can spare from EVERY era of the band.

Add top the director list Jay Jackson (is he still at Appalacian State?), for the life of me I can't remember the name of the guy that came right before him...it will come to me.

I have VHS tapes of all the band shows 1986-1989. My sister also marched 1976-1978.

No, it was Glen....something.....ugh where are the old people here to help me out???? He was there for a LOT of years as Chief's assistant.

Niz, you will want to talk to Tom Rohr (sp?). I believe he was here right after Jay Jackson. He had a great relationship with Chief. His visits were weekly the year I marched. I am almost positive he is still at Utah State University.

His last name is Rohrer - he was 1 year after Jay Jackson (we had Rich Sparks for one year as he was on sabbatical from Maryland...interesting guy)

That must be fall of '89 or '90. I'm guessing '90.

Jackson is still at Appalachian St. and has been the associate dean in their college of music for awhile now.

Rohrer is also still at Utah St. and is their director of bands.

I believe "L. Richmond Sparks" is still at Maryland. As was already mentioned, he was only here for a year between Jackson and Rohrer, so I don't know if you would have any interest in contacting him.

I would definitely suggest contacting Jackson and Rohrer though.

Well, it was a little more specific than that, but I'm not going there

I remember people saying that before as if it were an inside joke. Who started that whole thing anyway? A jealous upper classman who tried out for DM as well?
