Many of us are familiar with the classic home and home series. Two programs agree to play -- one season at Team X's place and the next or a subsequent season at Team Y's place. Typically, I think, the home teams keep the gate.

Our Wisconsin series would be an example, except for the fact that our home game was in Cleveland and I believe Wisconsin got a share of the Cleveland gate.

We've also had classic home and homes over the years with Temple and Central Florida before they entered the MAC.

So I was looking back a little further.

It seems that the last time Bowling Green executed a home and home to its successful conclusion in Perry Stadium involving a team that has never played in the MAC was ... Louisiana Tech.

Louisiana Tech played in Bowling Green in 1995. The Falcons played in Ruston, La. in 1997.

I don't know what this means. But it's kind of weird.

This Marshall series will be good -- far more interesting than Temple or Central Florida.

We had some nice home and homes in the late 80's and into the 90's. ECU, Cincinnati, UCF, LA Tech, ..... I hope this deal with Mooshall is the first of many of those kind of arrangements.

It was. I'm not sure if we finally found a way to get Missouri off our future schedule, but they were on there for years after the '01 and '02 games.

Same for Pittsburgh.

Here's my question. OSU is able to keep comparable schools on their future schedules without any problems. Why can't we keep other "mid-major" schools on ours? Are we not setting the contract cancel high enough?

First, Ohio State offers a boat load of money. Losing a shot at that loot is a real disincentive to cancel.

As far as why our home-and-homes seem to get tangled -- I don't know.

I do think the fact that the MAC office has played such a strong role in scheduling makes this wheeling and dealing far more complex. It's possible we could lose a home game and get something out of it that might not be apparent to the eye.

The problem is, none of the the athletic department's explanations were very clear when our schedule changed so radically this year. If we got the short end of the stick, then it would have been nice for someone over there to at least hint at acknowledgement of that. Certainly many of our fans felt that way.

And, if we got something out of that wheeling or dealing that wasn't apparent -- well, that wasn't evident either from the public statements.

It may be that the driver in all of this is money -- us wanting big paydays to plug budget holes -- and they just don't want to be open about that side of things.

I guess I can see why.

schad, these are some good and interesting posts. I am glad to read the Marshall announcement as it does something you mention as needed: a concise, clear communication on the schedule made as soon as reasonable upon the agreement's completion.

I believe this year's acheduling changes and the subsequent "expalanation" vaccuum were likely caused by our school's (in my mind) understandable reluctance to publicly criticize our league, our league office, existing television contracts etc. I don't think doing so would have accomplished much other than make our fans feel slightly better and perhaps our department look slightly better. It certainly would have created an overall poor image/relationship with our conference etc. All we do is make ourselves feel a little better while running down our conference.

Given this is our AD's first year and that we are not going anywhere else in terms of conference affiliation, I believe that is likely the reason. As all the MAC schools (AD's, presidents etc) move forward, the MAC office is going to have to do a much better job in whatever role they play in football scheduling- especially with Temple added.

Frustrating to me that is for sure. But I am getting ready for Minnesota!
