Wow, does that mean 4 guys they signed for next season will have to go? Will they be free to sign at another institution with no penalty (i.e. sit out a year)?

Or is it that they won't be able to give out 4 scholarships next spring, reducing their recruiting class?

Amstuz will just eat them to reduce their scholarships.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but OSU as a whole has tougher academic standards than it used to. Twenty years ago, they could accept any student they wanted. Now is not the same. It is reflected in the number of student athletes graduating and the number of student athletes performing well in the classroom. While they aren't quite recruiting the quality of Harvard bound students, they are recruiting studets that come close (see Anthony Gonzolas who just missed on being nominated for the Rhodes Scholar).

An article in the Dispatch last fall showed that OSU had a better freshmen class (see ACT/SAT and HS GPA) than Miami of Ohio.

And the winner is…
FIU!!! They had a football scholarship reduction of 9, with San Jose State University in a close second totaling a reduction of 7.

Am I counting right where there are only FOUR BCS schools on this list?

Who says membership doesn't have its privileges.

I counted eight (Iowa State, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Arizona, Tennessee, Kansas, and Texas Tech).
But it still seems fishy.

Like everything else, it's a resource thing. BCS schools have resources in place to try and assure that the school and the kids get above the minimum.

If a BCS school makes this list, that means they were collectively dumb or unlucky enough to miss the mark even with those extra safeguards in place.

I could be wrong

Post by falconfroelich »

but doesnt the heading say 2006-2007. Wouldn't that be from last year and in affect for the season we are in now. I thought if it were for next year it would have said 2007-08...could be wrong. Also noticed that USC wasnt on their.
