MAC Schools To Be Part of Newly Created Patriot Bowl
MAC Schools To Be Part of Newly Created Patriot Bowl
Could we see a Falcons (BG) vs. Falcons (Air Force) matchup in the near future?

GO BG!!!
I really like this idea. An established event like this could do a great job in helping attendance for (Ohio) MAC schools. Also it's for a great cause.
I can't think of a better time I've ever had at a BG football game than last year's Wisconsin game.
Or whatever I remember from it.

Seems to me that this MAC vs. Service Academy thing was proposed several years ago....and then shelved for whatever reason...prob. scheduling difficulties...because I think the Falcons vs. Falcons would've been an ideal FIRST matchup( but we didn't 'overwhelm' anyone with our Wisky attendance )...that said, Akron's proximity and the chance that the corps of cadets will be transported to Cleve. certainly makes for an interesting matchup. As to the previous meeting, Akron wasn't exactly turning heads then, and LOST to an Army team that had lost a whole bunch in a row if I recall correctly.FormerFreddie wrote:Akron and Army played at Akron in 2005. Does anyone have the attendance? I'm thinking it was a less than stellar turnout, and this puzzles me why the same two teams would be pitted again in such a large venue? I guess marketing is on their side this time.
My biggest concern is that Akron doesn't seem to have developed a strong fan base that follows them...though their attendance at the MCB was pretty good.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

I was thinking the same thing - there was a heavy buzz about such a game for a short time, then it just fell off the radar. The concept is strong.
Former Freddie:
The only box score I found for the 2005 game lists attendance at 12,203.
The two Falcons have never met.Falcon52 wrote:Have we ever played Air-Force?
Navy is the only major service academy we've played and that didn't happen until the 90s. (BG leads that series 2-1, btw).
However, there's plenty of "non-major" service opponents in the books.
Back in 1969, BG defeated the Quantico Marines and in 1958 BG defeated Lockbourne Air Force Base. In 1942, BG defeated Grosse Ile Naval Air Station near Detroit and lost games to Bunker Hill (Indiana) Naval Air Station in 1943 and 1944. There was another wartime-era service-related game in 1943 when the boys from Patterson Field came to BG for a 31-0 beating.

From what I saw of the AFA team, we'd kick some Falcon ass.
That just sounds weird to say.
BUT - my best friend went to the AFA and that could be fun bet fodder and SERIOUS bragging rights.

I donno. When they are on their game, AFA runs the option game better than anybody. Not that I'd hope we would lose, but it would be a tough game.

This gives me images of that COACH episode. Temps 30 below the wind howlling and of course LUTHER!
best episode lines from "WINGS OVER BUFFALO"
DOC"Ive never seen it before, but its possible that over time hes developed an immunity to salmonella."
Luther "Salmonella! Salmonella....what the heck is that?
Doc "its a bacteria that comes from undercooked chicken"
Luther "ChICKEN, like a fine steak is supposed to be a little pink! Everyone knows that"
