Its differentiate and I do know the difference its just that at the DE position we've never gotten a real good read on Devons actual straightline speed. 4.9 is real decent for a DT/NG but not DE.[/i]

40 times aren't all that useful in evaluating linemen. You're better off measuring them on agility drills and just watching the burst they get going from a standstill or a down position.

That burst and the ability to turn quickly is more important to a DE than running 40 yards. If you're DE is being asked to chase people for 40 yards with any frequency...your defense has some problems.

A 40 time is a bit more important with a LB though...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Agreed. It is not as publicized but the first 10 yards of the 40 are much more telling for linemen. Explosiveness is the name of the game.

Of course the Browns would've been playing Devon at OLB.

I know I'm pretty late to the discussion, but even though I don't like some of the personalities on Cleveland Sports Radio, I'm pretty happy that Cleveland has a sports radio station at all. WKNR was pretty down in the last few years before they became ESPN radio, now you can actually hear them at night. I guess when I drive home from work I'm happy that there is someone actually talking about sports, compared to WTAM talking about nothing.

Very true. But as Devon only logical position in the NFL at his currant size , a 4.9 is way too slow to play OLB. He'd have to beef up to about 275 to get a look at DE but then he might be even slower if he gained weight.
