We seem to think alike on this one. I think we'll steal one at MSU and go 2-2 OOC. 5-3 or 6-2 in the MAC. Ohio lost a ton from last year's team and Akron lost some talent as well.
I'm saddened by the fact that the program has gotten to the point where the most optimistic among us are predicting 8-4 or 7-5 records.

Seems like not that long ago our program was to a point where we expected 9 wins and had hopes of running the table. Yeah our NC schedule looks tough this year, but 4 years ago I would've expected to beat at least one, if not 2 of MSU, MIN, and BC. Now I'd be thrilled if we were able to make it a game against any of them.

I'll refrain from actual predictions until we get a touch closer to the season...we still don't know who our starting QB or RB are going to be.

We also had potential NFL'ers on those teams hammb. We all know Brandon is no Meyer when it comes to recruiting. It seems to me that before the 2001 season BG was awful for about 10 years and would have loved a 7-5 record. Can you name 1 NFL potential player on the team besides Kory???? I didn't think so. We also had a solid group of upperclassman in our good teams and by the time it was time for the young guys to play they were ready because they got solid playing time before they were the starters. Fact of the matter is, we just don't have the talent that we had in our good years. So I for one am expecting anywhere from 6-6 to 9-3. It's just impossible to predict our all the sophmores and Turner are gonna play this year.

The point of us winning nine games and expecting this type of season
was a point that resonated with me. I think back to the 2005 season and
the expectations of the Falcon faitful, including myself. We were being talked about in various publications as being a Top 25 team. Many, including I, believed we were worthy of this compliment. If we had any
defense against Wisconsin, we win the game. Even though we lost, it
was still a solid showing on national television. The Boise game we never
showed up. In fact, it was the first time I saw some chinks in Omar's game.
I understand these two losses. However, I am not happy. The turning
point of the program is when Omar is hurt against Western Michigan. We
don't lose if he is in the game. I was at the Akron game the following weekend, but I maybe wrong with this assertion. Whatever the case, Bowling Green lost and to me the rest is now our current circumstances.
I believe, and some may disagree, but if Omar does not get hurt, we continue to win and receive the riches with future recruits. I was at the Missouri game at the Doyt, and we looked athletic ready to be part of the
tradition of Ohio football. I was at the NIU game that was on ESPN. What
athletes on the field. We were feared. What has happened? In addition,
I was at the Marshall game in 04. We looked like a professional team
on offense. If I can reacall, I believe their coach said we were the best
offense he had faced during his tenure in the MAC. Can we ever
get there again with Greg Brandon?

I would say no for several reasons. Brandon is half the coach and recruiter that Meyer was. And the MAC as a whole has caught up with us, Turdledo, Miami and NIU. Central looks scary good this year even with the loss of two first day picks. They are my favorite to win the conference again and possibly the only MAC team to sneak into the top 25 this year.

This is what is so disheartening with where we have gone over the past 4 years. I agree the rest of the MAC has caught up and mostly surpassed us. However, as a whole I think it's painfully obvious that the MAC is WAY behind where it was in 2003. So essentially in a conference that has gotten worse over the last 4 years we have declined more than the mean...that's brutal.

You seem to be on to something with readily admitting that Brandon is half the coach as Meyer, but there are still some here who fully believe he's a good coach...yet some of those are the "optimistic" ones predicting 7-5 records.

I know we're stuck with him for at least this season, and quite likely the '08 campaign as well, it just pains me to see this program falling a lot closer to where it was in '00 than where it was in '03.

in 03' the MAC as a whole wasn't very good. There were 4 ELITE teams and the rest of the league was god awful. Now there are no ELITE teams except for maybe central and the rest of the leauge is average.

I generally judge an overall conference on the merit's of it's top teams, all conferences have bottom feeders.

In '03 our top teams were top 25 worthy, our bottom feeders were among the very worst teams in college football.

Now in '07 our top teams are top 50 or so, and our bottom feeders are still among the very worst teams in college football.

To me that is the conference taking a step back. The shame is that we seem to have swapped spots with Central in that 4 year period

watching the MAC championship game last year it was wierdly similar to the way central looked and how we used to look. it was easy to tell that they were just the far superior team athletically and thats the way we used to look.

I said the exact same thing when watching Central. They are what we used to look like.

When Brian Kelly was at Grand Valley, he was one of the headline speakers at our football coaches clinic.

Why is everyone upset with the thinking that 8-4 is a good year. Have we had a 'successful' year recently where we didn't lose 3 games? 9-3 is Urabn Meyer-esque but 8-4 is low expectations?

You guys are nuts...I remember those 16-0 seasons under Urban Meyer like they were yesterday.

It is funny that a few of you mentioned CMU, Brandon cited that game in particular during the recruiting reception as a sign that we needed to get faster on defense and special teams. If you look at the guys we recruited defensively last year, they pretyy much all have good speed.

That field turf is gonna make those guys hella fast too

I'll be very satisfied with an 8-4 record. I can accept 7-5, and will tolerate 6-6. Anything less than that is unfathomable.

So...to be clear on this...we end up at 5-7...we lose the game at MSU on a last second FG. Would that still be unfathomable.

Not trying to be a dick...I can do that without trying usually...but I just want to see how firmly set some of these lines are.
