Doyt turf available for free on Wednesday!!

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

The Bowling Green State University Department of Athletics has announced that small pre-cut pieces of grass from the Doyt L. Perry Stadium playing field will be available for free to the general public this Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the south side of the stadium.

The department is preparing to install FieldTurf as its new playing surface for the 2007 season.

"We have had some interest from fans who wanted a piece of the playing surface before we began construction and this is the best time to do this," said Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations Jim Elsasser.

Dammit. I'm gonna be on the road to Chicago Wednesday morning. I took out a fence in my back yard last year and some free strips of sod about a foot wide sure would look great in the old, bare fence line.

Pretty cool!

Don't think I can just "swing by" but it would be pretty cool to have a piece of history in Philly!

I mentioned my "chance" to get a piece of the turf when I was on campus on Saturday...just didn't think about it at the time...My wife just laughed when I told her about what I'd thought...to bring a piece of turf home and plant it in one of the few bare spots in my front yard...Now I find out I probably COULD have done it...and no one would've complained...oh well.

Thanks to JimmyZ, I've got some Doyt-sod in my trunk right now. Two pieces for my yard and 2 pieces to head to SOMEONE'S new house in Indy!

I was going to stop by and grab some...then I thought...what the hell for? I have a yard full of grass now. Besides...what if I were to plant it in my yard...would I have to rope it off so I can tell where it is? Would I have to beat my dog if he pees on it?

Too much thinking involved for me...I think I'll just skip it.
