Season Opener at Minny...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

So get this...Mrs. Freak's brother is getting married 8/18/07 in Eugene, OR. That's great. The problem is BOTH families are all in OH...Dana's family is mainly in the North Ridgeville/Elyria area and the bride to be's family is in the Lima area. So we gotta jet out there in August...which is cool because the U of OR is there in Eugene and I can check out Auzten Stadium and possibly buy one of those awesome Duck's jerseys.  Auzten Stadium is definitely a stadium I need to visit.

Now, the bad news. It was decided that the reception will be held in Ohio on Saturday, September 1st...opening day. :x More than likely the game will be at night because I think Minny usually plays night games. The reception starts at 6. I am really hoping the game will be on one of the ESPN channels or PPV. Looks like I'll have to sit at the bar with a radio and hopefully tape the game.

I guess it could be much worse...Sept 8th we're heading to East Lansing for the MSU game so they could have scheduled the reception for that date. Talk about getting in hot water with the in laws....but I'm sure if it was an Ohio Skate game, things would be different.

I had an idea...why not get married in Ohio on 8/18 and then have the reception that night! :-D But Dana's brother insists on the wedding in OR because, and I quote, "Well, I live there!". Yeah, true, but NOBODY else does!!

Anyone see a kickoff time yet for the opener? If it's an afternoon game, I'm good.

The Minnesota Twins have a 12:10 game at home that day.

Would this be a good time to point out that the Metrodome is the singlehandedly worse venue of all of sport?

That's a real bummer. I know the feeling. My brother got married last year the same day, same time as the BG-Wisky game. I was sitting at the reception following the game the whole time via BlackBerry, since the game wasn't televised in our area.
Hopefully the start time works out a little better for you so you can catch it. Good luck!

Thanks man! We couldn't go to the Minny game anyway but I certainly don't want to miss it either.

I took a TV to a wedding once to watch a game. Set in on a chair in the parking lot and ran an extension cord into the building. Went in to get food and beer about every 15 minutes. Didn't care who I pissed off. Groom came out a watched, too.

You also get the benefit of the time zone diff. A 7 PM start time makes it 8 here-that gives you two hours at the reception, a gracious "by your leave" and out the door to find a bar with the game.

That crossed my mind as well. If this thing starts at 6, I can slide out for a while and come back after half the people are drunk. LOL
