Exactly, if it were about what a team wants, than BG would have been in a bowl game in 01 and 02.Schadenfreude wrote:It's not about what Ohio State wants.Tricky_Falcon wrote:I know the whole thing about osu not wanting to play in the MCB but isn't it the 7th bowl eligible team in the Big 10 goes to the MCB? So far the 7th team is osu.
It's about what the Alamo, Sun and Music City bowls want.

Put another way, it isn't about what Ohio State *deserves*, either.kdog27 wrote:Exactly, if it were about what a team wants, than BG would have been in a bowl game in 01 and 02.Schadenfreude wrote:It's not about what Ohio State wants.Tricky_Falcon wrote:I know the whole thing about osu not wanting to play in the MCB but isn't it the 7th bowl eligible team in the Big 10 goes to the MCB? I agree with Jayhawks coach Mark Mangino's comments last night. "You know what this is all about, don't you? BCS...Dollar signs." That is the real reason OSU will be going to a bowl they don't deserve to be in instead of the MCB.

Ohio State has no say...
They don't get to pick the bowl of their choice. Money will not play a role and past history will not play a role. The seventh place Big 10 team goes to this bowl. If MSU or Northwestern does not win their last 2 games, the Big 10 will not have enough elligible teams and there will be no Big 10 team in the MCB...but, MSU has Penn and Hawaii, while Northwestern has Illinois and Hawaii. They both just may be elligible when it's all said and done.

Down the pecking order, we are talking about the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh picks, not about where teams finish in the standings.
It is impossible for Michigan or Ohio State to play in the Motor City Bowl. Only way that changes is if the Motor City moves up in the pecking order.

There are those who doubt that the non-bcs schools could ever be a factor in college football... but that was proven wrong...
It was said that little schools couldn't produce big successful college quarterbacks for the NFL... that theory has been blown out of the water...
It has been said that the OSU's of the world won't go to a small bowl... well I say F- the system and make it happen. If you dont want to play in the post season, then you shouldn't play football, nor should you be allowed next time you are eligible. You can't just pick and choose where you want to play there are reasons why there are contracts in place, and dont think that Northwestern and Purdue won't have a pissing fit about being ousted for OSU. You get what you earn, you dont just point and say I want that.

THIS is the most true thing said yet. If money and history didn't play a role, then Boise State would not be favored to play in Utah's Mountain West #1 spot in a bowl.Schadenfreude wrote: Money and history will play a role.

Just to add another point about the bowl selections, the bowl committees look at how well the school travels. Purdue has gone to bowls in Florida, Texas, and California and traveled well to all of them. The same could be said about OSU. That is why those two might go to a "better" bowl than a team ahead of them. It is all about dollars. Honestly, I'd love to see BG-Purdue in the MCB, just because I love both of them. But it won't happen, because the Sun and/or Alamo Bowls aren't gonna pass on a team that is 7-4, and can bring a ton of fans.
Why I think OSU will not play in the MCB...
especially if the opponent is Bowling Green, Toledo, Miami, or even Akron, there is no way they want to be matched up against a team from Ohio. I am sure they are scared that a team like BG could beat then and there is no way they would willingly go into a game that they know they could get embarrassed in. If they go to the Sun, Alamo, or whatever and lose to the fifth place Big 12 team or fourth place Pac 10 team, that is one thing. But to lose a bowl game to another team from Ohio would be catastrophic!

If it came to that, they wouldn't have a choice. The outrage about Texas Christian ducking Miami U. would pale in comparison to the bruhaha if Ohio State was picked to play in the Motor City.Warthog wrote:especially if the opponent is Bowling Green, Toledo, Miami, or even Akron, there is no way they want to be matched up against a team from Ohio. Luckily for Andy Geiger, it won't happen. I'd say "lucky for Buckeye fans," but most Buckeye fans are oblivious to this.

Oh but it would be so worth it to see! The gap continues to close and noose gets a bit tighter....heh heh!Warthog wrote:especially if the opponent is Bowling Green, Toledo, Miami, or even Akron, there is no way they want to be matched up against a team from Ohio.
